Hey flak..I got the ideas for these after seeing what Pidjy was doing in the bryce forum a few months ago :) coolstuff!
Flak posted Thu, 14 July 2005 at 9:30 PM
Hey stone. Yeah, was going to mention that pidjy had one or two of them in the bryce forum. Its an amazingly simple way (disp maps) to do greeble on space ships.

Flak..just curious, does bryce do ZDepth renders? I'm finding another way to make these displacements look better is using ZDepth renders of all the elements...it gives the perfect sense of depth to displacement. perfect for making sculptural reliefs of figures. Poser can do zdepth renders with alot of fiddling too I'm doing mine in zbrush though. Cheers Stefan

Boy do I got a use for that! Thanks, Stonemason. :-)
Flak posted Thu, 14 July 2005 at 10:53 PM
Thats one of a cone, ball, cube, pyramid... sculptural releifs - yeap - I've seen a few of those. What you can do, once you've got the relief/altitude map is wrap it around a cylinder in a mesh editor to get a stone column with figures carved into it.

Cool, exactly what I needed for an actual project ;-) (Remember: It has to do with tentacles too).
Thank you!

Whoa! Kick ass! I'm stuck in P4 too, but I do have Bryce! So maybe displacement is an option for me too! happy dance How does one use displacements in Bryce? Can it be used on Objs too? If so, I've some Egyptian texture obj makeovers to do! =D~ bB

It does remind me that it's time to play with displacement maps because this is awesome! I think a nice Gigeresque look could be achieved fairly easily with displacment maps.
