I purchased a character package for V3 awhile back and just got around to using it. The package includes: inj morphs, texture, makeup options, tattoo options, nail options and one outfit with top, undies and shoes. I injected the morphs, added the texture, one tattoo, eye makeup, nail colour, the top, undies, shoes (default textures), added hair and hair texture, a complex global light, and then tried to render it without a background. Usually a single figure such as that will render in about 1/2 hour or less for me. This one took almost 2 hours. I changed the pose and added the Poser World sofa to the scene. After 3 hours I cancelled the render because it seemed stuck at "adding objects". After I pressed cancel, poser indicated that it was cancelling the render. What would cause a single character such as that to take such a long time rendering, even though it was the only figure in the scene, while other characters where I've done essentially the same thing to (inj morphs, texture, makeup, clothing, hair/hair textures, pose, light), takes so much less time? I changed the number in the swap thing for XP to 768. At I did a disk defrag yesterday or the day before and did Adware too. Does the amount of free space on the hard drive impact rendering time? I have a 40 gig hard drive and had 14.8 gigs of space left at that time. I've since burned off some files and deleted them from the computer and now have 19 gigs free space. I am trying to add some content (tubes) to my site, but at the rate of 3 hours per render, it's agonizing :( It's such a beautiful character too.

Maybe the complex light setup could be a cause for the long time...rendering the shadow maps with a lot of lights could be very hard to compute... I dont know what youve selected in the rendering preferences. greetings markus

Get "STOMP" (do a search in the forum here for it) and run the meshes through it. Might help.

Rendering times depend on the items you are using, such as resolution and polygons. What version of Poser are you using or is it Daz Studio. I think Poser 4 just uses CPU rendering. Looking at Posers website it looks like Poser 6 has has 2 render options the CPU (software) or OpenGL harware render. The OpenGL lets your video card do all the work and will render much faster. Daz Studio has both Software and OpenGL Hardware render options. Also rather than integrated graphics built into the motherboard it is better to have a seperate graphics card like nVidia or ATI Radeon.

P6 only has Software rendering. The preview window uses OpenGL.

Acadia...a day or two ago I was trying to render a slightly complex and large (3000 x 2650) scene in Poser 5 Firefly: 3 little P3 Daz faeries, a unicorn, a fair few plants & grasses and a pond with surface reflection and a few water lillies and cat tails...after 58 hours plus "adding objects", I finally cancelled the frelling thing...I tried a few times before that, but didn't let it go that long before I cancelled for the same reason...I tried to render it in Daz Studio, and it took 8 hours 46 minutes...although I had the settings wrong for the reflection on the pond surface and that didn't render...soooo, I have no idea what was up Poser's butt...wish I did though, I'd love to render it in Poser, like I should be able to!

I use Poser 5, and the lighting I used is the same one that I usually use when I render tubes. I'll look at that "Stomp" thread. I downloaded Stomp, but have no clue how to work it. I read the "readme" and the "user guide" but there aren't any instructions that I can see, and I don't know what to do after importing the .obj file into the window area.

is a screen shot there of the settings.. is a lot of posts there tho and i missed it the first time i read thru it :-)
what i did.. start up the application..
2)Then export mesh.. File > export mesh
It will ask you what name you want to save the mesh as.. i saved it as the same name but simply added the letter 1 to it so i could find easily but distinguish it from the original.. you will then get a box with export options
check the boxes for:
Export UV coordinates
Export Faces
Export group names
Export materials
Export Materials (*.mtl) file
and then on the right side pane.. make sure to check the radio button for the option Face Sorting - By Material!!!
and away you go :-)) cant include Spanki's screen shot for you coz am msg board illiterate and dont know how to insert images into posts :oS lol

Thanks :) I had the object imported, but I thought it was like "The Tailor", where I had to do something to the file once it was imported, but I didn't know what, hehe. I've ran 4 .obj files through it and am off to try and render to see if it's any better. crosses fingers

Argh, I just realized there is a small mistake in the documentation. To turn on any option, you should change it to 1. To turn off any option, set it to 0 (zero.) It says to change to 2 in the documentation. Sorry about that. Any updated scripts will show correctly.
