Is there any way to convert Bryce models to Poser 6? I do have Bryce 5, but I've only tried it out a few times. Guy

Have you tried exporting as a wavefront obj, and then importing into Poser? I know transporting Poser figures to Bryce works that way, but I'm not certain if you can do it the other way 'round or not.

You can only export Bryce models that consist entirely of imported meshes. If it is made of Bryce primitives, or even contains any Bryce primitives then it can't be exported.

Bryce only exports terrains, rocks and imported meshes. As far as I know there's nothing else that'll do that conversion.

Bryce doesn't export Booleans either. Bryce Booleans are not true booleans in that, they really don't modify the mesh. It just tells Bryce's render engine "Dont render this"... Tom

Pakled - no tree export Tom - just because Bryce does parametric booleans doesn't make it less true then a mesh boolean. In fact you're more likely to get a "true" boolean out of a parametric object then a fixed mesh.

Hawkfyr posted Tue, 19 July 2005 at 9:37 AM

Maybe..but were on the topic of export. The Boolean does not modify the mesh. If you successfully exported ,..say...a Boolean terrain(2 terrains, one negative and one positive). When you opened the object in another app, they would both be visible(positive) and neither objects geometry will have been changed. Notice how the negatives in wire-frame are still visible(dotted wire-frame,and completely visible in open GL *see image*) It may be a great solution and more efficient for Booleans within Bryce, but not for export. I'm not disagreeing with you on it's efficiency in Bryce. I'm just saying Booleans are not exportable. 8 ) Tom

Just to let you know I've heard that there may be true exporability (and poser/texture importability) with the next incarnation of Bryce. Remember, DAZ hasn't had Bryce that long, give them a chance to do it right folks. :) Bryce originally was never intended to be a modeler, only an environment creator. The users stretched the program to do things that were not originally thought to be part of the program ... they did the same with Poser throughout the years. We as users have tested the limits and sometimes that creates larger challenges to the creators. I think both programs have evolved wonderfully over the last decade plus. We are all in this together.
