Hello, I use a Fuji Finepix S5500, and I need advices in order to set the focus manually. On the little screen my settings seem sharp enough, bur later, on the big screen, it happens to be blury... If someone could help. Thanks, Sam

I always use "auto"....it really seems to do everything just right and I would highly reccommend it...with my luck, I will take too much time setting the focus and the flash and by the time I get everything just right, it is too late to get the picture :( What are you taking pictures of, and is there any chance that the screen may be off just a bit?

I was trying to shoot a flower. Auto focus works well on my camera, but I wanted to try manual setting. It's indeed very slow, fortunately flowers don't run very fast :-) What do you mean by "the screen maybe off" ? English is not my mother tongue... Bye, Sam

I mean what you see is not necessarily the true picture...your screen may be fuzzy and so it looks like your picture is fuzzy which it may not be...

The problem is that the pictures seems sharp on the camera screen, but keeps a little blurry when seen on computer screen.

The true question would be : how to be sure that my focus is good (as this small screen seems to be of poor help) ?

IMO..cant really trust 'auto'!!! fools even the most Pro cam!!...I use manual on 'static' subjects 'cos that way, you can determine the point of focus!

It could be why your images are blurry is because of your settings?...ie, shutter speed?

you will ALWAYS find that Prosumers (like your cam) is slower than DSLR's in detecting!

I made my tests with a great shutter speed, so I don't think it explains the blur...

Ah Lejimi, I also had this problem on my Fugi 602Z. Manual focus is hard. I used a tripod and and used the LCD screen with the middle of the LCD screen zoomed in. A small button next to the LCD screen on the right. this helps to see a small portion of the object larger on the screen and helps to manual focus. However, I only used this in super macro mode, mainly when shooting fish in a tank. Search the forum for 'Fred and his bruvs' to see the results. Otherwise use the autofocus, the Fugi Auto focus is very good if used properly. Good luck Steve

I ever noticed it : the autofocus is quite reliable. As for enlarging a part of the screen I'm afraid that I don't have this feature on my camera (however I'll search the manual closely again) but you spoted the problem : this LCD screen is too small !

After thought: you should hear a beep when its in focus, manual or auto.

I hear nothing but sometimes an arrow appears on one or the other side of the focus "ricule" It gives someting like that :

perhaps it means that I went to far this or that way ?

Lejimi, I had a look on Dreview at your camera and cannot see the LCD zoom button, rectangle and square. Also notice there is no longer a focus lock button, strange Fugi have removed these on 5500.

There's no focus lock button, but there's a way to lock focu thought. But I'm still trying to understand it : on the web I got my camera for a very low price... bu with a german operating manual...

Manuals are usually available from the manufacturers web site. Try this if you want the manual in your own language :)
