Well, I have a model I recently made, and I need to create some water splashing from one level to another. Sort of a cascading into a pool effect. Anyone have experience with doing this realistically using terrains or another modeling program? If so, how'd you do it? I was thinking of maybe using a lattice and just draw it out.. but it might look sloppy. Anyway, thanks for the input. (I'd use metaballs, but the scene's going to be complicated enough, and I'm tired of more than overnight renders.)

check out the tutorials. there's a couple of good water ones on there

Possible alternative? Make water terrains for only absolutely where you need it and then use painter or dogwaffle to paint in your splashing water. Otherwise, I'm out of ideas.

Someone here ages ago was using tree leaves (i.e. bryce trees without the tree branches and trunks) to make the splashes of water... (maybe Zhann?) with terrains for the bulk of the water I think. Was a pretty nice result.

Wow, that's a pretty interesting idea flak. I might just try modeling it from metaballs in metasequoia then exporting it as a poly model.

Peter Sharpe has a pretty classic water pouring tutorial using Lattices.

Thanks, the only reason I decided not to go with latices is because I wanted to easily export it as a model that could later be manipulated. Latices sort of mess with that.

I thought Lattices were exportable?

ok, well this Waterfall I am currently making for my job isnt made in Bryce, but thought it might be able to help you. It isn't great but Its still a WIP and the 100 frames rendered in less than 3 hours. It was done in 3dmax 7 using a few partice sprays and a Gravity Force. Im not sure if You have access to Max, but if you do or any other program with particles, I would be happy to share any settings if youd like
