Written like it is supposed to be FRANISE, it is pronounced FRANSS-OAZ but I know no English speaking person who is able to pronounce the AN part correctly. So I settled for my nickname FRANCE but when I first registered here, it was already taken (although I've never read any message from another France) so I used my middle initials (Marie Isabelle) and it ended up as FRANCE-M-I (Francemi). Apart from my sister's boyfriend, all English speaking people try to pronounce the AN sound and some come near but NONE of them pronounce the rest correctly and they end up calling me Franis (no E at the end) and that gives me a man's name. Hmm, I thought Anton's last name was pronounced KIE-zell with the emphasis on the first syllable. Nothing fancy about mine, simply my last name, literally pronounced "Red" "Fern" (as in a non flowering plant that is red in color). English in origin, the family name still has a presence in the British Isles (where it's still spelled "Redfearn"); however, my closest relatives and I hail from south Georgia. Funny how people interpret the origin of my name. Some thought I was the offspring of '60s "Flower Children"; others thought it was Native American, like Roundtree. When I joined an "ElfQuest" mailing list, more than one person assumed it was a concocted name keeping in theme with Wendi and Richard Pini's independent comic saga. Heh, go figure. Sincerely, Bill

BTW I thought I made the name Daio up, not knowing there it was actually a MAN's name in Japan ( I'm female and I have no idea how they pronounce Daio in Japan).
Daioh means great king in japanese. (I don't know if they really use this as a name, except in animes).
And about my username: it comes from a minor character in an anime called El Hazard. Animes are japanese but I don't know if Kyraia had the same name in the original. I only know the german version.
In German the pronunciation is very easy. The "y" is generally pronounced as " (u-Umlaut), and to speak with Francoise (sorry, there is no cedille on my keyboard :-)
but I know no English speaking person who is able to pronounce this correctly - although it is very easy once you realize that the pronounciation has nothing to do with the "u" where it comes from, but is quite close to "i" (or "ee" like in cheese).
So, the pronunciation is something like Krah-yah.
Kyraia actually is a female character, but in reality I am ... an alien

I've been thinking about XENOPHONZ (charlie) and think I figured it out.
xeno comes from the word xeno. Or maybe it's a prefix or something. Anyway, it means "stranger" (also used in "xenophobia" -the extreme fear of strangers)
"phonz" sounds like "Fonz" which many of us recognize as Arther Fonzarelli, that icon of cool badness in the legendary TV show "Happy Days."
[In all honesty I think that email circulating the Internet about phonz being the Greek work for "poopydiapers" is even less accurate than the one saying "Bobasaur" means to bounce your head up and down over a small festering wound.]
Anyways, all this leads me to conclude that XENOPHONZ probably means "stranger cool badness."
Or not.
