In some light poses I've seen where they add a whole mess of black lights. Why are they black? Do they subtract light? And how do you make them another color if you want? And are there any tips on adding more light where you want it? The light set I added was pretty good, but I thought the face was too much in shadow. I tried changing one of the black lights because there seemed to be so many. When I couldn't figure that out, I added a new light. I moved it around checking left front and top views. I aimed it from the ground up at the face but it didn't seem to add as much light as I wanted. At first I didn't think it was working at all, but when I rendered I saw that part of the face was receiving some light. I probably need to make the radius or whatever it's called wider? Thanks.

I suspect what this is is a bunch of light set to really low levels in an attempt to create global lighting and they just look black because the light level is so low. That's what is nice about Poser 6, with IBL you can dump the million low level lights and just use one light to get the same effect. Try using the shadow cameras to aim your lights if you are using spotlights. Just make sure the camera you are using is for the light you want to aim and then use that light's parameter dials to move the light. Then try to get the figure in the center and it should light properly.

Fazzel may be right about a bunch of low level lights, but I would also add the following. When you apply a light set (lt2 file) it will turn off any lights that already existed in the document unless they are specificly referenced in the file. It's als posible that some light sets add lights that are off when they load, this is prety silly, but people some times do silly things. To demonstrate what's going on, open a new Poser document, and add a spotlight. Now apply any light set thjat came with Poser, one of the ones from the 'Light Sets' folder of 'Lights' pallet. Next check the Properties of the spotlight you added, you will find that it has been turned off! You can turn it on again, just place a tick in the 'On' box of the lights Properties.

If you want to make sure that a light is pointing at the head (for example), you can select the light then use 'Point At' from the 'Object' menu. Note that in Poser 4 & 5 if you set the 'Intensity' dial of a light above 1.000 the change in intensity will not be visible in preview, but it will show when you render.

Easiest way to get rid of that bunch of lights is Python, open the Python window, click on utility funcs and then delete all lights. Now you can start from the scratch
