This is one that looked great at the lower render qualities and smaller resolutions, but now I think it looks like crap. I'm not even sure if I want to continue it. Definately the bubbles need to go (yes, they are bubbles, not nanites =P). I was very satisfied with the glass until I saw it fully rendered; I hate it now.
Errmm... not good. This took roughly five or six hours to render, with very little really to show for it. Can anybody help me out here? ^_^ EDIT: btw, no postwork here except a mild color enhancement. ;)

i wouldn't say very little to show for it. it's potentiall fantastic, all you need is to make the pencil not drop shadows, and maybe fake the shadow somehow else. or just render it in a smaller rez.. all the same, looks like a massive amount of work. keep at it. grabs the whip ONWARDS :) drac

Bryce does do refraction really pretty well. I like this idea. It's working for me. So I say stick with it. Takes ages though. The longest render I ever did was a similar one to this.shinyary2 posted Sat, 06 August 2005 at 10:44 PM
Thanks guys. Maybe I will finish it. drac--If by shadows you are referring to the dark, blurred area immediately beneath the pencil, then I agree with you, it needs to be removed. But it's not a shadow, it's a reflection on the surface of the water, and no matter what I do it seems I can't get rid of it. I'm using the default Water mat in Bryce5's Glasses section, and even though I turn reflection all the way down, it still messes up. Grr...
Phil--
Looks pretty wild. I originally had something even more similar to yours in mind (without ever having seen your image... maybe Douglas Adams was wiser than we like to think); I was going to put the desk on a wooden, reflective table. Nothing ever came of it, though... just couldn't get the wood to look quite right. Someday I'll go and take a photograph for that texture.

I like this Shinyary, what I think is off is that your pencil needs a little more workmostly in the colors with particular attention to the end metal band holding the eraser and the eraser itself. Maybe some industrial makership writing on it off skewed. Dont know what you used for the bubbles but if theyre small spheres, increase their size selectively a wee bit. Love the concept!
P.S. On the bubbles, the closer to the surface bubbles are, the bigger they are due to less pressure if even in the smallest sense.
