Okay, I found this in my yard today. I moved it across the street to take pics of it. Most came out blurry, but I did manage to get a couple good ones. I have NEVER seen a spider like this around my house. Does anyone know what it is? I know someone (can't remember the name...sooo sorry) posted a bug site. Thought I would show you guys how creepy this thing is though. :)

Eewwww ... shudder Very PRETTY spider, but my gosh, I have never seen anything quite like this one before. I think they say that the colorful ones are the poisonous ones. But who knows. Where are you .. hopefully not in Minnesota usa?? lol

My book tells me it is an Orb Weaver spider. I took this photo last week,... common here in Texas, and quite common around the U.S. I believe. Yes, they get quite large and can certainly startle you when you walk up on them.

This site:

....has a brief description and image of this spider.

mmmmm my first thought was a "waspspider" but the legs are different. Spiders are not my favorite insects brrrrrrrrrrrrr...but I am not that scared anymore as in the past sins I search for bugs.......

Wow! Great creepy spider images! At least I know they aren't poisonous. Now I have to figure out which image to put in my gallery. There are 3 or 4 pretty good ones, I just don't know which looks the best. And, yes, that is a disposable tupperware-type container, Andreas. :) Thanks for the info guys! I live in California and have never seen anything like this, so I was a bit freaked out. Insects tend to do that to me when they are right in front of me. lol

I found this little guy spinning his web near the back door to my basement. He's not very big...about the size of a pencil eraser; but he's very ambitious and spins quite a large web. :-) He's also very common I think, here in NY, as I've seen several of them at different locations. No idea what kind he is though. Some very awesome spider pics in here!! EEEEKS!!!!

That is a great web shot! My webs never seem to come out good. Andreas, I'm glad I started it, too. Your spider up there looks pretty creepy, big or not! And you don't need your dictionary.....we all know what you mean. :)
