Hey Sans'

Just thought I'd update this thread and tell you that there's a version of Ableton going for free.

I was just told about it;
Apparently it's on a special edition of "Computer Music" magazine. Can't tell you what version it is exactly, but you might want to check it out. I remember you said you were after Ableton, and this is free (apart from the price of the mag ;-)

Hey Len, cheers for the heads up there, I got the software from eBay a few months ago now and have been mucking about with it. I still prefer FLstudio for actual writing but Ableton is excellent for doing live mixing and getting vibes going for a song. Cheers mate;) I will have to get my shite together an update my site with some new tracks:) Michael

Wooohooo! - nice one :-)
BTW if it's V4 you have, you might be entitled to a free V5 upgrade.

Damn, FL is way too messy for me (Ableton is very "clean" and logical in comparison).
I know Ableton's got it's own way of working, but it still rules in every respect for me.
If you prefer FL for writing, then there's probably something you're missing on "how to"
with Ableton. Still, I'm one of those Ableton die-hard's for whom nothing less will do,
so just ignore my babbling :-)

We should all be thankful for any sequencer eh Sans' - I mean just look at TheBryster, he's got HIT-KIT and he's probably a superstar on the quiet! Let's hope he doesn't get an ebot - he might think I'm taking the piss ;-)

Anyway Sans', be sure to post a link in this thread when you've got more mp3's on your site.
Send me an IM as well, 'cos I don't think this old thread send's ebots now. I'll also keep posting any new links of interest if I come across any.

Ill have to look into the free upgrade for sure:) The thing with fruity is I have used the software since (I think) its first release and am very comfortable and familiar with its workings and I think it has a more raw hands on approach (Dont get me wrong though mate, I think Ableton rocks). Its like me and Bryce, at the moment Im trying to switch to a better equipped 3D program; I think Im leaning towards Carrara 5. Basically I get stuck and stubborn in my ways lol Sorry OT;) Hit-Kit, never heard of it lol The Bryster street boys LMAO!!! I owe him one for saying I looked like Michael Jackson. Ill most definetly give you a link when I get more tracks on the site, I think Ill wait until Ive finished my new site though, it could take a little time. Have I asked you if you like or heard Aphex Twin? Cheers Len;)

Yeah I've heard of Aphex Twin - isn't he the guy who creates analog synths'n'stuff? I don't listen to him to be honest, but from what I've heard about him, I know I should (will do one day).

Found another link on the web though, this time SUPERNATURE by ERASURE. Check it out 'cos it's a rare live version and synth's are performed by Vince Clark (former Depeche Mode). He's an analog synth enthusiast as well, and this track has that really "fat'n'solid" analog sound to it, even though it's live.

Thanks for the link Len, great synth sounds indeed. You gotta have a listen to Aphex Twin some time for sure;) And here are a few others I can recommend: -Square Pusher -Wagon Christ -DJ Magik There are a couple mainstream bands I like, one of them is Faithless, you like them? Cheers Len -Michael

Yeah, I like some Faithless. I can't say I know of the others in your list, but one of the names rings a bell - and I can't think why :-/

As for the free upgrade;

If you bought it new:
Ableton will need to know when it was purchased/registered.

If you bought it secondhand:
They'll still need this info, but probably the original owners details as well.

So yeah, go find out, and be quick about it mate 'cos they have limitations on how long you can qualify for free upgrades - I'd make it a priority 'cos Live5 is the cream!
