i just found this out, does anybody know this happened? one sided squares suck up dynamic cloth like a vacuum! apparently, the empty side sucks up the cloth and the full side blocks it. is this a relatively unknown fact?

Dunno if it's ever been stated plainly like that but now you mention it, it makes sense.

hmmm must have been a fluke of the program.. i tried it as simply a simulation for this purpose, and it didnt work.. i was trying to pose a shawl by using a one-sided square, and the shawl fell into the blank side and got sucked in.. must have been a glitch or something. i'll try to post an animation.

I think the cloth relies on surface normals to collide with, and since the back of a one-sided square has none, it simply falls through.

One-sided squares are the anti-christ of the Poser world. They cause more problems in other areas .. .there have been numerous threads about the havoc they wreak. When in doubt, (i.e. always) go with the hi-res square.
