Now available at Vanishing Point: a fully-posable Dalek figure for use in Poser 4 and above. This Dalek is based on the new version seen in the 2005 *Doctor Who* TV series. This version includes extra details not found on the original Dalek, such as new "ears" and a more metallic coloring. The obj file is about 1.9M and is about 20,000 polygons in size. The Dalek figure features:

• Head can rotate
• Eye stalk can rotate up/ down and left/ right
• Right arm (plunger) can rotate up/ down and left/ right and extend in and out
• Left arm (gun) can rotate up/ down and left/ right
• Midsection can rotate around
• Does not include ERC controls on the BODY section. This way, you can add as many Daleks to the scene as you like without any kind of cross-talk between figures. The zip file includes:
• Dalek figure: obj file, cr2/ png/ rsr file.
• metallic reflection map and "eye" texture.
• MAT poses to change the color: blue-grey, dark-grey, gold, green, red, and silver.

Here's something a lil' retro. Very impressive! At a pleasingly lean 20 KB polygons, one can load an entire brigade, well, 9 in this shot, without killing Poser. Nice idea to simply texture the eye-piece instead of adding unneeded polys. For my own preference, I add a little ambient glow (about a 128/128/128 gray) to illuminate the "lens". The material poses to change the casing's color was a dang clever idea. yeah, I know it's used on skin and clothing items; I just never considered a Dalek. Thanks, John, for the neat item! Khai- that's a great image! You're right, those Daleks get everywhere! Refern- that's a cool image also. It looks like it should be on a video monitor. There are only 9 Daleks in that brigade? It looks like a lot more! And thanks for the compliment on the use of MAT poses. If anyone else would like to make MAT poses for this figure, please feel free. If you offer the MAT poses on your site, also feel free add a link to Vanishing Point. Or if you don't have a site, I could probably be talked into hosting the MAT pose zip file at Vanishing Point. :) I only ask that you NOT re-distribute any textures found in the Dalek model zip file. Your MAT poses can reference the textures, though, since it's safe to assume that people will already have the textures from downloading the Dalek model. --John

The video monitor, however, would be mounted in an old 60s B/W television. Yeah, just 9 Daleks. I originally had 10 in a bowling pin arrangement. However, 2 could not be seen. I deleted one and the other I moved to the viewer's far right. Because they fill the image, one assumes they continue to line up past the frame and behind the others. I really like the bulging cathode ray tube and the frame, but I think I'll rebuild the rest of the casing and knobs. Because too many people think "the more polygons, the better"... even if the polygons add no extra detail. This is why you hear people boast about their 350,000-polygon model ("Highly detailed!"), yet a model of that size will probably crash Poser on most people's computers. But this is an issue for another discussion. :) --John

Actually what you see are the "travel machines" for degenerated mutants riding about inside them. These Kaled lifeforms were genetically engineered to perceive themselves as the ultimate lifeform. All other species are to ultimately "exterminated". The plunger is a multi-function manipulator, its seemingly simple design masking its true danger. the "roto-rooter" is a compact energy weapon that disrupts the internal organs and thus kills the victims. And, yes, the plunger is excellent for unclogging backed-up toilets. It's a little known fact, but the Daleks had quite the drain unclogging business a few years ago. Since Doctor Who went off the air in 1989, the Daleks found themselves unemployed... after all, who wanted to hire killer robots who want to kill everyone? And their plunger-hand wasn't exactly useful for working at a keyboard. So, they got into the drain-clearing business. --John

For it is demonstrated a Dalek plunger CAN control a keyboard (well, a keypad in this case). Once free of its chains, the Dalek is seemingly locked within its vault. the "tank" trundles towards an access keypad and presses its plunger over the entry coder. We see littel "divets" randomly appear over the back surface of the elastic material. It is, in fact, pressing the keys to unlock the door! It also demonstrates its usefulness as a power conduit (in order to recharge itself) and it functiones as a data port because it accesses the internet and downloads everything it can. Don't be fooled! That "bathroom helper" is far more formidable than people assume! Sincerely, Bill
