Discovered a whole bunch of these critters the other day! They look waay out of place here in New Jersey. With that Hawaian Shirt paintjob, seems they should be hangin out in a more tropical climate!
Anyways...I've narrowed it down to some type of milkweed bug...can't get an exact match though!
Calling all bugologists! Need some assistance!

It's a bug. :-) There's tons of such critters around here and I know just a couple of them. BTW, you never said whether it's hard-shelled or soft-winged. It's difficult to tell from the photo. I'd guess soft winged. BTW2, this summer I saw a rhino-bug. with just one horn on the top of the snout. It was something like three inches long and incredibly strong for its size. When I returned with my camera, it was gone. And I hadn't had anything to cover it and keep it in place. :-(

Hiya Joe,
i found it for ya, its not a milkweed bug but a type of moth. Its a Ailanthus Webworm, Atteva punctella.
Look here: image+info :D
Or here: images. These were actually shot in New Jersey ;o)
You were right about them looking out of place, it appears they are originally from Florida. Very cool shot btw !! Excellent work there !! :o)
Have a great day,
Jeroen
