Hi, I'm just playing around with some of the free dynamic clothing items and finding the procedures very satisfying and interesting. However, I'd love to change the textures of some of them - can I use material room to do this - I have some RDNA fabrics - or will I have to do a UV map of the dynamic item and do it that way?

If you load the clothes into uvmapper classic or pro you will see if they have uvmapping and if they do, save a template.

I have been using the material room to change the colours of dynamic clothing, but haven't tried textures yet. Haven't quite figured out the node stuff, hehe

thanks for your replies - I guess I'll continue playing around - got to admit I love the way DC acts around the model - once the animations have been sorted out! The only thing that's needed really is patience, ;-)

Texturing a dynamic cloth is exactly like texturing a normal prop. You can use procedurals or image based textures or a mix of both. For image based textures the item has to be UV-Mapped, but usually that is allready done by the modeler.

Did you get the clothes from poserfashion? They have some great ones there. Also, there is a gorgeous kimono here: http://homepage.mac.com/hisaom1/ImageLabs/FileSharing20.html Not sure if you saw it or not, but I made a thread called "Dynamic Clothing... love it or hate it", and I posted an image using the Aiko kimono. Turned out quite well and shows realistic material folds too.

Actually, that's one of the things I love about dynamic cloth; the texture maps can be flat to the real fabric. Check out Serge's stuff to see how he uses this. Most Mac-made Poser stuff is usable across platform. Simply put, playing in a mostly PC world has made us experts in translating in and out of cross-platform file formats. Unless there's a .sit extension (and even then, often), you should be able to use it just fine.

My kimono is plain front/back UV mapped. I'm not very good at UV mapping yet. I always try to map the clothing in such a way that seamless tiled textures are usable - that way it's possible to get beautifully detailed textures without using large maps. Couldn't do it on the kimono, however.
