In Bryce you can select an object and do a mask render. Everything else in your scene will render black, while the selected object is entirely white. I find this very useful for postwork. It makes selecting objects in Photoshop a snap. Can you do this in Poser 5 or 6?

What you could do is make everything invisible, except the wanted object. Render this object over the background and save as a psd file. It will automatically include the "alpha" channel.

.TIFF has the alpha channel, too.
