Subject: 'Kaz' hair style renders?

I was wandering if anyone has any closeup pics of Patrick Martin's 'Kaz' hair style, brokered by Daz3D. As is often the case, the images at their site don't show the item particularly well. I haven't noticed any gallery images using the hair, or any in this forum. I was hoping to get a better look, or some opinions, before I parted with the spondooliks.

I got it and I'm not happy with it at all. It looks like a cartoon no matter what I do with it. Marque

Marque posted Sat, 03 March 2001 at 12:44 PM

Oh, and when you bring it in it's called Vickie's test I wonder if I got a bad copy? Marque

Marque posted Sat, 03 March 2001 at 12:47 PM

here is the dark texture that comes with it

Marque posted Sat, 03 March 2001 at 12:48 PM

here is one that was done with anti-alias turned off

polartech posted Sat, 03 March 2001 at 2:02 PM

I know how you feel with this... One idea here is to fake some forehead shading onto the texture map itself. This helps a lot with giving the illusion of real hair, standing off the skin slightly and casting shadows.. In this image, you can see the original map, and below that the shading I added in PShop. Hope it might help.

Shouldn't have to do that. Thinking about asking for a refund on this one, and I've never asked for a refund from Zygote/Daz. 8^( Marque

PJF posted Sat, 03 March 2001 at 2:46 PM

Thanks for the replies. Are you saying this hair item doesn't cast shadows? It certainly looks like it needs much more in the way of finer texturing to be successful. As for the 'style', it looks like she left the hairdresser's about half way through. To be fair, that's how they often look in them thar hairstylie mags.

zimmer posted Sat, 03 March 2001 at 2:49 PM

When the hair was available at the store I asked DAZ if they could send me a few close ups of the hair, but I had no answer from them. Now I know why... I cant understand why zygote brokered a product like this one. It felt strange when I saw they didnt offered the option to see a close up of the hair, as they usually do with most of their products. Have you asked them for a refund, Marque?

ookami posted Sat, 03 March 2001 at 3:05 PM

I bought it and I am REALLY disappointed. I keep hoping someone will post a better transmap or... or... something!

Marque posted Sat, 03 March 2001 at 3:06 PM

Yup, just sent them an email about it. You shouldn't have to do postwork on a model just to make it passable. Marque

BillyGoat posted Sat, 03 March 2001 at 4:00 PM

I bought it too... should have known it wasn't up to par just by looking at the side shots on the page. I asked myself why there were so many side shots and no 'rendered' like pictures. Rather than buy something really good from Anston, I wanted to save a few bucks and buy 'Kaz'. I'll keep it in hopes more talented people will make it into something good. Had I seen these pictures first, I wouldn't have bought it. But hey, you all saved me from another 'less than par buy' on a different hair model, so I didn't lose in the end. I appreciate you all for speaking up.

Debbie M. posted Sat, 03 March 2001 at 4:09 PM

I too purchased it, and haven't had any luck at all. I agree BillyGoat, I too wondered why all the side shots, and no straight forward shots. I'm going to try to make a more realistic map for it, and see if I can get it to look decent. Should I be successful, I'll post the map in the free stuff here. If anyone else finds any better working maps in the meantime tho, please share the url :) Deb

Thanks Deb. If you can get it to look better I will keep it. Marque

Thanks all. I was thinking of buying it but since I've had problems getting to the 'checkout' part of the store, I didn't. Glad now I could not check out S. Diane

Now that I like.... I'd buy it if it looked like that!!!!

polartech posted Sun, 04 March 2001 at 3:04 AM

Looks awesome Kozaburo - absolutely transformed!!! PLEASE DO post the new maps when they are done. Many thanks.

Silvermermaid posted Sun, 04 March 2001 at 3:30 AM

Wow, Kozaburo, you always amaze me and your so generous. You can take a lump of putty and make it look like glamourous hair! I wish I had your skill. Anyway, I will only buy this Kaz hair if Kozaburo does a new map for it, otherwise its awful. Thanks for letting us know Marque and bringing up the question PJF.

Marque posted Sun, 04 March 2001 at 4:31 AM

Leave it to Kozaburo to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear!! I will keep it if it can look like that! Marque

sparrowheart posted Sun, 04 March 2001 at 6:10 AM

That does not even look like the same hair!!!!! Kozaburo is a master...maybe even a magician :)

kozaburo posted Sun, 04 March 2001 at 6:34 AM

The textureing for this hair seems easier more than i thought. May be I can post it with in few days. Wait for a moment. :)

ookami posted Sun, 04 March 2001 at 9:30 AM

All hail Kozaburo, the hair trans map god! Wow... terrific job! I will actually use the hair if you post that wonderful transmap!

zimmer posted Sun, 04 March 2001 at 9:42 AM

Kozaburo, you are the greatest. Im even thinking about buying the hair to use your transmap... :) The example you posted looks awesome.

Marque posted Sun, 04 March 2001 at 10:17 AM

You could even post what you have now, looks better than what I bought! Marque

Colm_Jackson posted Sun, 04 March 2001 at 11:44 AM

Syyd purchased this yesterday as a suprise gift for me. We where both very disapointed. I think that Kozaburo's render has made a major difference 'BUT'... This shouldn't have to be done. This is not good enough quality in the least... Colm...

Whoooohooo! Yes, you are so cool! Marque

WarriorDL posted Sun, 04 March 2001 at 12:04 PM

I agree that Koz shouldn't have to fix Kaz's hair textures. Why continue to buy the item to use Koz's textures, ie supporting the individual who put up such a crappy item in the first place? Koz is indeed very generous to help that individual out like that.

Debbie M. posted Sun, 04 March 2001 at 12:07 PM

THANK goodness you did this, because I was having a VERY trying time to create on myself. Thank you so very much for doing this for us all!! I agree with Colm tho, this shouldn't have had to be done, and I think Daz should be aware of this. Once again kozaburo... THANK YOU!

Debbie M.

zimmer posted Sun, 04 March 2001 at 12:29 PM

I agree with you. Its not fair that Kozaburo is releasing an awesome freebie like this for such a crappy commercial hair. Thanks Kozaburo.

Silvermermaid posted Sun, 04 March 2001 at 3:11 PM

The "Texture God" has helped us again! :) Without you Kozaburo, I am sure I would have to buy Rogaine for my Poser characters. Thank you so much! I do think that Daz should give a gift certificate to all who purchased this horrible hair. It's just not right, and this model should be drastically reduced in price.

Kozaburo: (Bow) We're not worthy! (Bow) We're not worthy! (Bow) We're not worthy! Thanks for salvaging this hair!

Thanks very much Kozaburo. You do an excellent work as always. With your hard work, you made those hair usefull.

D0GG0D posted Sun, 04 March 2001 at 6:17 PM

Ditto... Kozaburo has the best hair I've seen on the net and the net sure has a lot of people. Any tips on how to create spiked hair model + trans? ( hint Kozaburo )
