11o year old picket fence and house gingerbread i found by an on barn window on a farm where these old farmers lived thier whole lives ... couldnt decide black and white or color i am leaning toward the color helpppp halp... lol one of the shots from my michigan trip this summer i personally loved....it was all that was left of the memory of thier old picket fence...

both are very good, Kimmers, but i prefer the b/w. not sure why. i just really dig b/w these days over color. i think with the b/w a different mood comes across than with the color. yeah, i prefer looking at the b/w one, but the color one would look fabulous framed and hanging in a room with a lot of light. :)

I agree, both work, but for me the B&W works better. A very slight sepia might just be the perfect touch!

And here comes Mr. Know-nothing liking the color. I guess I like the color because the transfer to B&W loses the plants around the wood in the foreground (shades are too similar). (smile...I'm used to being the odd person out)

I agree with Kort (twopynts)..some sepia would be the touch you need.

Might as well try sepia too...I kind of like the colour one..but would lessen the black on the frame around it. Seems to overpower the image.

hmm i dunno know if sepia does it for me i still like the color what wrong with me i cannot get into black and white on this i am trying!! WILL THINK MORE ON IT! hehe augh.. heres the sepia whaddya think?

I prefer the color one over ur first B&W version but I prefer that last one (with the selective sepia toning) over them all!!!

LOL!! I like color too Kim!! It all depends on the image! B&W doesn't work with everything! I really like that last one though! ;)

Yeah THIS is a tough one! The color one brings out more of the details of the image! You see the moss growing on the left side of the window! The ivy inter-twined with that fence! Very RUSTIC feel (I love rustic...btw) The B&W version really adds drama and evoke an different mood (to me anyways!), BUT everything blends...all those suddle nuances in the color version seems lost to me. The 3rd is a good compromise between the 2! Maybe expand on this and the selective colors thang! Highlight the details in my comments above (for image 1) Btw...How DO you do the POP OUT BORDER (with the flower!)! I've tried to do this on some of my images and have pretty much gave up! (can you say TUTORIAL?)

For me, because of the subject matter B&W (or a tone) no question about it.

I do like the colour one; sometimes I wish we didnt have these choices as it can be so tough to choose.

My dad once told me (and I believe him) that colour photography is about colour and black and white is about everything else.
Then again back then he probably didnt have a choice.

I think the point he was making is that the viewers have to use their imagination more with a black and white image; this gives a wide variation of interpretation.

The Truth is Out There

Well (smile), I have a saying, too and it goes a bit like this: "If you can't deside if an image looks better in B&W or color, go with color because more (casual) viewers prefer color over B&W anyway. It's only the artists/photographers among us who strive to find great B&W images."

for this i prefer the color, i like those grayish-blue tones i do agree the frame is too much on the first two & i luv the 3rd the best.. has the most unique quality personal preference i suppose... (as far as tuts go.. i still think layering is best to pop a flower out of frame but kimmers has done a fine job of working around that in her own way)

I got 2 cents worth to inject lol. In this instance i would try color but desatureate it till it felt right. That way you get the feel for "old" but maintain the warmth and life of the location. Sometimes life can be a little of both. BTW-I am not the one to comment on frames.
