What does one have to do to get CS2 psd's to thumbnail in Windows/My Pictures please?

You cant. Adobe disabled that feature as there where problems/conflicts with MS Windows. Note: Same for Illustrators native Ai files. Just use Bridge to view your .Psd (or any Adobe) thumbnails. SWAMP

Thanks, but what if you only have PhotoshopCS2 and not the Suite containing Bridge? One of the Forum sites can not accept CS2 images because of an "attachment" but if I take the CS2 into another of my Apps and resave as the same file description the problem no longer exists? Note that a CS2 psd file is larger than a "regular" psd file. Any more indepth explantions as I can not believe Adobe and Windows would allow this problem to continue?

Hmm. Doesn't Bridge ship on the same CD as PS CS2 (like ImageReady does)? Might be worth re-checking your install options, perhaps you chose not to install it?

  1. Photoshop CS2 standalone ships with Bridge. You might be thinking of Version Cue which only comes with the Suite 2) Dont know why you would be submitting a psd file to a forum. Psd files are very large (size wise) and are really not intended for the net. Jpeg is the preferred format for web use. 3) Yes the file size of a .psd saved in CS2 can be larger and contain other info ("attachment") if saved with the "Maximize Compatibility" option. Go to Preferences>File Handling>Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility and set that to "never". The default setting is "ask" but you are obviously selecting yes to do so. 4) Adobe disabled thumbnail viewing by not installing the psicon.dll. The psicon.dll builds thumbnails in Windows Explorer (it's a "shell extension"). It does what it's suppose to and builds a viewable thumbnail. However a flaw in Windows Explorer will not release that file out of memory, which leads to problems both saving and opening without rebooting your system. Adobe cant fix Microsoft software so their only solution is to use Bridge. As far as you can not believeWindows would allow this problem to continue..well what can I say ;-) SWAMP

I have the CS2 Suite so my missunderstanding about the Bridge. I've forgotten the site but it had this problem with accepting even the jpeg made in CS2--I reopened in Acrylic and saved in Acrylic and it was then accepted at that site. Your suggestion about the change in preferences may be helpfull. For interest I have the P3dOPro browser for (mainly) Poser use. The CS2 psd files thumbnail perfectly!!!??? in this app. Thanks all for your help.
