Hi all, Whenever I use the smudge tool in Photoshop (I'm using PS6), it takes at least 4 or 5 seconds to complete. Is this something that happens to everyone? I have a relatively fast computer so I don't think that's the problem, but it's a pain when I'm trying to learn how to do some basic digital painting and I'm supposed to use the smudge tool extensively (for this particular project I'm using the settings: 200 soft brush, mode: normal, and pressure 84%). Any suggestions? Thanks so much, Jenna

Hmm, how fast is that computer:) Ram plays a large part in how PShop performs; with tools like smudge. Cant help much here. Out of interest though, do you know how much ram is in your computer?

I never intended to make art.

Hi bluevenus!

What you can do to make the Smudge Tool work faster is to uncheck the spacing checkbox in the properties for the brush.
This usually speed up things.

also the higher the resolution the more PS needs to keep track of... smudge is one of the more RAM intense tools - try to zoom up and use a smaller brush. :| retrocity

I'm not sure how much ram I have, it was considered a very high-end laptop when i got it a few years ago, so it can't be too bad :) I'll try unchecking the spacing checkbox, and working with a smaller brush, thanks for the suggestions! -Jenna

In future you can right click on my computer and hit properties to find out the amount of ram you have;) Happy smudging:)

Smudge tool is the beast that like to eat RAM, so try to find another ways like liquify, there are many tools and powerfull posibilites :) Tihomir
