Good afternoon all,

I am a newbie to Poser and I am interested in learning how to use the program. I have been reading this forum as well as others and to be honest, this is very overwhelming and quite confusing! lol. I would like to know if I could get any help on where to begin first and if there are any beginner tutorials. Also, when you purchase items how do you go about setting up folders and such? Any help would be very much appreciaed thank you!! :D

First suggestion is to a search in the forum for Dr. Geep. He has made some fantastic tuts on Poser, from the beginners to the more adavanced user. Second suggestion, when you are ready to install a new product, extract it to a dummy folder and double check the folder structure. Sometimes things are not where they should be, those you would have to correct. Again, refer to Dr. Geep's tut on folder structures for the version you are using.

I am new too and have treid to find Geep's tutorials here. . . but to no avail. I can find his artist page - but the links to all the tuts do not work. Can anyone explain how to acces this info?

Slightly more seriously, it'll take you several weeks (at least) to get familiar enough with Poser and it's vagaries, but the results can be well worth the effort.

Regarding buying content: DON'T! Not yet.
Learn how to the basics in Poser first using the supplied content, including loading and posing figures, setting up lighting, making some of your own props (from the primitives - Geep's tutorials are invaluable for this bit), and handling cameras.

And still, before buying, download some free-stuff. If you can't use it or install it or there are other problems, then you've lost nothing except a bit of time...:-)

Be warned: much of the available content (both free and bought) are add-ons (even some that specify stand-alone); you need a specific character for them to work.
(an example of stuff that might be advertised as "stand-alone" which aren't might be some conforming clothes. Yes, they're stand-alone items, but they've been created for a specific character. If you don't already own that character then you'll have problems...)

Reading the forums is a good place to start. And yes, Dr. Geep is probably your best bet for clear (and funny) help.

Or, alternately -- you can choose to learn Poser by using the same method that I did back around Poser 2.

Just load up the software and start punching buttons. Something's bound to happen.

In other words: don't be afraid of the software. Don't let it intimidate you. Conquer it. Try new stuff.

Something To Do At 3:00AM

Wow you guys are most helpful!!! When I first opened Poser I quickly clicked the "x" button because it was intimidating lol but I'm determined to learn how to create some beautiful Posers so on that note I'm off to view Dr. Geep's tutorials!

Question!!! I clicked on the first tutorial (joint parameters) and I didn't see anything??

Which Poser version do you have? If you've got Poser 5 or 6, go have a look at my "absolute Beginner's Tutorial" Link is here above this post :o) It's written for Poser 6, but except for the fact that Poser 6 loads with another base character, it's absolutely the same :o)

I have another question lol. The characters that are posted for sale don't worry diolma, I'm not buying anything yet lol, state that they are for Victoria1, 2, Michael1, 2, etc., can you use those characters for the Victoria or Michael3 base?

No. Victoria 1 & Victoria 2 are not the same as Victoria 3. Likewise, Michael 1 & 2 use a different mesh than Michael 3. Nice and confusing ain't it? Victoria 2 can use victoria 1's textures and likewise Michael 2 can use Michael 1's textures. But when DAZ went to version three they used totally different meshes for both characters with unique mapping.

Bleh I meant to write that it's written for Poser 5 So it should fit right in :o) Also adding that Mike 3 and Victoria 3 comes with a M3 to M2 and V3 to V2 character as well. It takes M3/V3's face morphs but not the body morphs (and those are sold btw) But it DOES enable you to use the CLOTHES out there for Mike 2 / Victoria 2 (and 1, they have same bodyshape)

Whoa that's very confusing!! lol. I see I'm going to have a lot of questions that will need to be answered before I really get the hang of this. Thanks guys again for all your help :D
