I can't remember exactly, but you're problem is related to that. You need to increase the ambient occlusion bias - I believe it's under the Properties of your IBL light.

Well, I just experienced my first Poser file corruption. Microsoft Office has hijacked my .pz3 extension and now everything is reproting as Xcel documents. When I try to open it from within Poser6, is asks for a .pmd file which doesn't exist. One of the benefits of losing a file and having to start from scratch is that it usually gets done faster the second time around because of all the practice you got during the first round. Please block your ears AAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

Go to My Computer, explore to a directory where you have .pz3 files stored, right-click on a .pz3 file, on the fly-out menu which appears select "Open With", on the sub fly-out menu select "Choose Program". This window will appear.
Select Poser 6 as your associated program for .pz3 files. That should correct at least the first part of your problem. BTW - the computer that I'm on now doesn't have Poser installed, otherwise I'd have shown Poser in the sample.
XENOPHONZ posted Wed, 26 October 2005 at 11:25 AM
Oh -- I should have said that you need to check the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" box. That should fix the file association problem.

Thanks for the help. But unfortunately I'm on a Mac. And I don't think that's my problem. While I was working in Poser a dialogue box appeared telling me that I am running out of memory and that I should Save immmediately and quit Poser. Well, just as I was saving Poser crashed.

Hmmmmm. Yep, someone else will have to help you with a Mac. I've done graphics work on Macs in the past, but I am by no stretch of the imagination a Mac guy. As you stated, it sounds like you've got something more than mere file association problems going on. I wish you the best. I know just how frustrating these types of problems can be.

Save multiple versions of your files. I've been told that many times. Its my own fault.

If you are using an infinite light as a shadowcaster, double or even triple its bias (0.800 to 2.00 or 3.00). Different objects get effected in sometimes worse ways than this. This stuff pops up all the time. If you zoom in on pic2, you'll see a lot more of it on a small scale. On the .pmd's...I'm a strong advocate for disabling the bastards. This (yours) is a good example. You probably already disabled it but some residual in your library is still loaded with it. It then trashes your PZ3 for not having it(mho). Shoot it twice and then stomp on it(mho). And be careful what you delete

The left foot looks a little unnatural in how it bends, doesn't it? I know that is not the topic of discussion, but anyway that IS something that is wrong in the picture

OSX is very much like Windows with file associations. Find a pz3-file in the Finder and press Command + I (get info). In the middle of window that opens it says something like : "Open with: " and below there is a drop-down list where you can choose the program you want to open the file with.

bandolin, Setting default programs works in a similar way on the Mac. First, select one of your Poser files in the Finder. Then, press Command (a.k.a. "Apple")-I. In the Get Info window that comes up, click the arrow next to "Open With." You'll see a popup menu that will contain a number of choices. Hopefully, Poser will be listed. If not, you'll have to choose "Other..." and browse to where you have Poser installed to select it. After you've got Poser selected, click the button in the Get Info window that says "Change All..." I've found that sometimes (at least with Jaguar, which I'm using), "Change All..." will change it back to what it was before. I've only had it happen if the program I wanted was already in the list. If that happens, use the method where you browse for another program. That seems to work for me.

Cross post! Oh, well... Hopefully, it will work for you.
bandolin posted Thu, 27 October 2005 at 8:27 AM
You can also do that using the contextual menu by pressing the Control button and then selecting "Open with..." My problem is, when I do that and navigate to Poser, the program is greyed out. And I can't select it for some reason. However, only some of my .pz3 files are unassociated. Most of them are fine.

When you're browsing to find Poser, there should be a dropdown menu that says "Show: Recommended Applications." Change this to "Show: All Applications."
