Here I go again, playing with terrains and home made elevations maps. It's been a long time since I wanted to make a space scene. So here is the first render, without texture. there is absolutly no bump map here. I still need to make some details suche as doors, and gotta model some nice shuttles, and add some lightings

I just want to share this with you as I know there are some sci-fi fans here.

You do some amazing things with terrains Pidgy!

pidjy posted Thu, 03 November 2005 at 12:57 PM

marcfx, the details are painted with photoshop using scale of grey, then its imported as an image into the terrain editor... it's called displacement maping or elevation map. Here is a second view.. with a bit more details... Look out big size (900x675)

marcfx posted Thu, 03 November 2005 at 1:04 PM

I'm amazed at how it looks, even the shadows seem to be in all the right places, or do you adjust the light in Bryce to suit the shadows on your textures?.......all amazing painting anyway, well done and thanks for the explanation. Marc. PS Edit: Would you texture the paintings or select the object within Bryce and then texture it?

pidjy posted Thu, 03 November 2005 at 1:10 PM

there is no textures marc, I only use a "flat withe" procedural shader ("simple and fast" bryce texture library)for all the objects
Concernig the shadows.. I use the default sun light and a blue light bulb.. that's all.. if you see some shadows on the details, it's because the details are really in 3D.. it's not a bump map!

Absolutely amazing.......Where do you get your ideas/designs for your PS work?, do you use a template to draw over for layers, its so detailed it must take you ages.....thanks for the update. Marc

pidjy posted Thu, 03 November 2005 at 1:59 PM

ideas comes from my twisted and weird brain lol.. it took me about 15mn to draw a map.. but I've been practicing for ages.. now i'm able to "see" the result while I paint the map.. and it's helpfull to get the right result at the first time.

marcfx posted Thu, 03 November 2005 at 3:13 PM

But everything is so symmetrical.....do you use 'line tools' and certain other brushes... I couldnt even draw a straight line without some help from some brushes.... its just so perfect. well done
