Subject: Problems with Poser 5 on new computer.

I just bought a new computer and installed Poser 5 on it. The program crashes the second I click on the icon, and the computer reboots. I am trying to run it on an HP Pavilion a1250n with an AMD Athalon 64x2 Dual 3800+ processor. My OS is Windows XP Media Center Edition with SP2. Any help out there? Thanks, Dave DaveT710@aol.com

How much RAM does your computer have? Mine has 512 on it and it is slow but works fine. I have a newer computer with alot more RAM and Poser 5 loads up lots quicker and runs alot smoother. Not sure if this helps, but it may have something to do with it. If not, sorry I can't be of more help.;o(

Thanks for your reply. I don't think it is a rem problem. I have 1G of ram on this computer. It worked fine on my other computer that had 512M of ram. Dave

Sounds like an OS problem. I hope that HP included a Windows XP Media Center installation CD and not just a restore CD.... HP is notoriously stupid when it comes to configuring home computers and workstations. You could try running SiSoft Sandra 2005 (the lite edition is free) and run a few system tests. But I'm afraid that a full reinstall of the OS is in order...

Thanks to everyone who responded. I fixed the problem and Poser now works fine. The fix was to disable the Data Execution Prevention feature in Windows XP SP2. Once I did this, Poser worked again. I guess it was a small price to pay for a faster processor.

Now that's weird indeed. I have an Athlon64 3500+, Windows XP SP2, and DEP is turned on. And both Poser 5 and 6 work fine.
