It is always nice to see you here. I do not know the origin of Pitklad but I have always thought it was a cool name. I don't want to know what it means... the mystery is nice.

Narcissus is a very beautiful flower and there is also a very nice greek myth about it! My problem was people half times wrote it wrong!!! And you know even in bad publicity the name should not be mispelled :^) pakled I don't think we'll have any problem, at least I hope so... :^S
momodot posted Mon, 14 November 2005 at 1:24 PM
Pitklad, I am guilty of always spelling Narcissus in a different and always incorrect manner. Pitklad is easier for me, and I do enjoy the fact I have no idea its origin. I have now officially entered pitklad in my spellcheck! Pakled, don't worry Pakled/Pitklad? What confusion could there be? ;) Seriously, they actually do sound totally different outloud and I move my lips when I read :)

I've always loved the fact that anyone would liken themself to a pakled GG - but of course, sometimes it can work to your advantage to appear more stupid than you really are ;o) And if it wasnt' for the fact that changing my name permanently here would mean closing down my store and starting all over again (which I just don't want to) I'd change permanently to TrekkieGrrrl too...

Kai ego eimai kala ! Actually I don't know all that much Greek, but my city (Melbourne, AU) has the second highest Greek population in the world - second only to Athens (or so I am told). So there are many Greeks in my world, in fact my best friend is Greek.
pitklad posted Mon, 14 November 2005 at 8:45 PM
Wow! 8^o
I knew there where many Greeks is Melbourne but not so many!!!
It's nice to have a friend from the other side of the world!!!

In Canada I live in a place actually called Greektown. Here the street signs are in Greek, the signs in stores are in Greek, and business is conducted in Greek. Even the young people still speak Greek among themselves! It is this last fact amazes me. My father was Arab but lived his life mostly in Greek, working at refrigeration in the restaurant business. What amazes me is how perfect your English is. North Americans are unusual if they can speak there own language properly ;)
mathman posted Mon, 14 November 2005 at 11:39 PM
pitklad : I understand that there was a huge influx of Greeks to Australia in the 1960s. Of course, now they are second and third generation and they are still proud of their heritage. momodot : likewise with Australians.... Actually, I get the idea that Europeans get taught better English than we (native English speakers) do. For example, I have an Estonian email penpal, who writes with perfect English (both spelling and grammar).

And I always fear that things that I say may not be understund... I learned english very early & i don't have the top level certficate, internet and movies help me understand very good. However speaking/writing is different then just hearing/reading...
Actually as it was said in "my Greek fat wedding" it is real that many words have base on the Greek language, mostly in sience vocabulary but in everyday too :^) tell me a word!!!
I know there are greeks around the world that are more then half of greeks that live in Greece!
