Subject: does anyone know what kind of birds these are?

shot these at the zoo yesterday.. had to climb over a rail and then stick my camera thru the gate lol kids got mad was happy for the shot but couldnt figure out what kind of birds they were no signs anywhere i was thinking kooka buras but i think they are from africa anyone have any idea??

My first thought was Australian kookaburras, too. But, I'm no expert, so they could be something else. Great shot of them though. They look so fluffy. I like it! :)

Look like young Kookaburras to me. Try looking at Jimbo's gallery, he has a adult one there, I think. Steve

As an Australian, I can say with 100% confidence that these are definately young Kookaburras - A member of the Kingfisher family.
