Forgive me. I know this has been asked before and answered, but I JUST DON'T GET IT! Model in Poser. Export as OBJ. Open in UVMapper. Weld vertices? Fix seams? Export as OBJ. Import into RayDream. Even when I do it this way, I get an OBJ that's got tons of pieces. Tried Vicky and there were about 7 assorted pieces to her face. The skin alone, not the eyes or lips or anything that made sense. Others have done this, I'm pretty sure and UVMapper was the answer. What am I doing wrong? Thanks much and I appreciate your patience JetM

What are you trying to do? Do you have the latest version of UVMapper (0.25a)? When you bring it into Ray Dream, do you have the attached selection screen? You need to select one object per group. It sounds like you are selecting one object per group and material. If you are trying to render in RDS, you shouldn't have to run it through UVMapper.

Here it is.

Thanks for the response, wyrwulf. But if I do one per obj group, then I only get one mesh for Vicky. I can't apply the proper texture maps to the different materials? Can't apply the head to the head, the lips to the head, body to body, fingernails to body, etc. Got the latest UVMapper. i've seen before when people asked how to get Poser figures into RayDream, the answer was to bring the OBJ into UVMapper and run it through there. Or does that only fix the texture maps? I'm trying to get Vicky or Michael into RayDream and apply the texture maps so I can try out the RayDream render features. Bugs me that I've got this program and I can't use it! I've rendered other stuff in RayDream and really like what it does. Has anyone else gotten Vicky into RayDream successfully and applied texture maps?

I will give it a try and see what happens. My results might be different, as I have RDS 5.5. I will let you know what I do, and you can see if it works for you. Do you have the latest Poser update (4.03)?

JetM posted Fri, 09 March 2001 at 11:09 PM

thanks. Silly me. I didn't get the 5.5 update when I still could. I was planning on getting Carrera but still haven't managed to justify it financially. Buying too many toys for poser! :)

Oh, I do have the latest 4.03 of Poser

Here's what I did. Export OBJ from Poser. Uncheck Universe, recheck figure. Check the boxes in the attached image. Save in the same folder as the texture maps so RDS will find them automatically. Open in RDS using the settings I showed previously. Vickie should map properly except for the eyes. I'm not sure how to fix that. I don't know how RDS handles transparency maps. As for Carrara, wait until Eovia is selling. You should be able to upgrade.

Also, make sure you have the OBJ importer/exporter version 5.0.3. That's the most current version for RDS. That will help lots, I've discovered.

Success! Thanks wyrwulf for sticking with me. Finally figured out that RayDream wants groups and if I rearranged and renamed the materials into groups in UVMapper, then it'd import. version 5.0.3? Never heard of it. Where is it? I've installed the update for 5.0 to 5.0.2, but never heard of a 3. And 5.0.4 is for Macs as far as I can tell. Is there a newer version of just the OBJ importer? I checked the Raydream eGroup (I guess it's Yahoo Groups) but didn't see a 5.0.3 update.

I'm glad I could help. I don't know who has the 5.0.3 update.

Uh, I do... but for the Mac version only. And I found that this OBJ i/e extension didn't necessarily ship with the full app upgrade, way back when.
