Is anybody here able to explain correctly the differences, nuances between light, contrast and gammas levels settings? JP Delmur wants to know what a "gamma" is exactly and I would be glad to have the correct definition, too... The example below shows an original shot, the same with a huge increase of the gammas, the same with a huge decrease of them... Thanx a lot!!

Gamma effects the relationship as you transfer from black to white..ideally it would be equal steps for correct tonality..gamma control would compress or expand those steps just above black to mid tone ie : shades of Grey. So varying gamma whilst holding black at black is a very good way of releasing detail just above black without whitening out your blacks because they remain at black...
