Gamma effects the relationship as you transfer from black to white..ideally it would be equal steps for correct tonality..gamma control would compress or expand those steps just above black to mid tone ie : shades of Grey. So varying gamma whilst holding black at black is a very good way of releasing detail just above black without whitening out your blacks because they remain at black... Lovely shot Pimbotin! I have never understood what 'gamma' is either,so I'm glad you asked! And thank you by the way for your recent comment on my photo from the airplane.As you can see,I'm not totally 'gone',LOL.Just a bit 'relocated'!-Marlene :^)
