Quickly, this is how I've done my "planet ring" image. First I made a photoshop file 512x512 with the quarter of a ring. the ring is only a "noise effect" applied on a black layer.(see the details on pic1) In bryce a create a symetrical lattice, then in the terrain editor I apply my ring image (see pic 2) I adjust the settings (crop, dampen, smoothing) till I get the exact result I'm looking for. (see pic3)

For the texture I've used a procedural "rock" texture, I set the size of the texture allmost at maximum (9200X9200X9200) and I put a lot of specularity to get important highlights on my rocks ( as they are really small it's important to see them) the bum is set to 60/65% to gives an irregular aspect.

In the bryce scene I duplicate the quarter ring to make a whole ring. I duplicate it and put it just under the first ring then I rotate it a bit for the rocks not to be replicated at the same place and to give a "random" look. I set the lightings (2 radial lights in my scene) and I do some part render to check that is't ok... That's all By the way I've set the terrain resolution to 2048x2048.. so be carefull to have enought memory if you don't want bryce to crash ;-p cheers
