Hey now good people! First let me take a moment to say Happy Holidays to one and all. Next up, if anyone is interested in DAZ Studio support ie: a module/plugin/interface to import from DAZ Studio into Vue, then I would ask that you stop in here: http://www.e-onsoftware.com/support/ShowMessage.php?id=1133400690 Matt at e-on said he passed this on to the "big guys" so they can gauge the level of interest. So, if this is something you would like to see, now is the time to take a moment and say so. Thank you for your support.

No. But thanks for asking - consumer opinion is seldom taken into consideration...

elektra posted Fri, 09 December 2005 at 6:33 AM

Which is foolish when you think about it. Why make a product that no one would use?

elektra, I suppose we all wish for different things, but me? - I wish for a solid core for Vue so it can move on with more advanced features, such as; particles/dynamics, dissplacement mapping, improved terrain editor, improved ecosystem, material and shader improvement, render optimisation/overhaul to take advantage of improved and faster rendering technologies and last but certainly not least a big animation overhaul.

Cheers

Well- I think Elektra is doing a good thing asking for this. It would be a SMART move for E-on as well. Having DAZ Studio file support really has very little to do with CORE Vue features and operations...- besides- Vue already supports Poser- so what's the big problem with support of DS files? DS files are basically much smaller BINARY files- so it should be even more efficient to use in Vue! If DAZ offers E-on the SDK, and help, E-on would be STUPID not to impliment DS support. I also think that Carrara's FULL SUPPORT of Poser files is a great step forward (and something I've asked for from E-on for about the past two years). I was told then that this "might not please e-frontier"... Well- the CAT is OUT of the BAG, now. So E-on has to move forward in a REALISTIC way to adress MODERN market trends- or it will be left in the dust... AND there are a number of companies ready to SPEED BY E-on- like Eovia, Planetside... ...Times change...So, E-on- get WITH IT...!

Ohhh, I think there is no harm in suggestions and what Elektra is doing...expanding a product is good. For me though, correcting any issues there may be in Vue's present features is more important and then adding core features and updates is my personal next priority. I feel the features I mentioned would do better in keeping back the competition than time spent including DAZ Studio import would. DAZ Studio is only in it's first version, so I think it is hardly indicative of market trends (just look at the amount of posts in the DAZ Studio forum compared to the Poser one). I think a product needs to be established before you start "playing well" with it. Vue was made to be a landscape app...I still think there are plenty of other additions to be added to it's toolset before it can be considered a full featured landsape app...examples; fluid dynamics, true volumetrics, full featured tree editor, full featured terrain editor. Cheers

Well- I BADGER E-on on a fairly regular basis with ideas and suggestions that range pretty widely (or WILDLY) and have gotten back some very thoughtful replies. E-on's MAIN problem seems to be just GETTING TO all the stuff that needs to be done! While DAZ Studio support seems minor (I don't even use DS myself) - I think it is an important feature for E-on from a MARKETING standpoint. Many current buyers of DAZ models want faster and easier ways to go directly into Vue (personally I am still very happy using Poser Pro-Pack- but mostly only "old-timers" use PP now)- and there is also a remaining current of unhappiness with Poser 5 and 6. The days when POSER was the ONLY GAME- are OVER. Carrara's bold step over that line (which is ABOUT TIME) is the wave of the future, I think. POSER will become like BRYCE- a program with a loyal, diehard base, but many new DAZ model buyers just want to MOVE ON to their favorite 3D APP for rendering their ideas. Actually- if you check around the forums, especially the DAZ Forums- you will find a SURPRISING amount of favorable support for a DS to Vue import feature. While DAZ may own and sell Bryce- THEY WILL LISTEN to their customers! And E-on better do the same thing! It would be especially important for E-on to get it into the entry-level Vue Easel ASAP! A DS to EASEL link would be really good for both companies...

Agreed, I am always for an app to continue to improve itself. And here's one Poser user that can't wait to get rid of it. It takes ten times longer to load than any other app I have including Vue 5 Infinite and Carrara 4 Pro. From what I was reading in the other forums, the issue with bump map files is still not fixed in Poser 6. Poser 6 is what Poser 5 should have been, why do I have to pay for this upgrade? Given time, I could continue my rant. I'm tickled that Carrara will now support native Poser files. Who really cares if e-frontier is happy or not. Poser has had a huge head start in the market and their fifth incarnation was still not a sparkling success. There is a lot I like about DAZ Studio, but it can't import into Vue or Carrara and it sometimes has issues with models, but for a first incarnation, it's a fairly decent app. More people using Poser than DAZ Studio equates to more posts in the Poser forums, but plenty of folks post over at DAZ.

(Link to what the DS 3Delight renderer CAN DO -or COULD do...) I was a very early ALPHA user of DS when it first came out and I was getting INCREDIBLE results importing Lightwave and 3DMAX (converted to 3DS) models. This was because the ALPHA version had Python enabled model loading features- and I discovered that by importing a model through POSER- and then loading it into DS- I could get astounding results! However- by the first official BETA- DAZ removed the Python feature and started DUMBING DOWN Daz Studio for their perceived Windows 98 and ME intro-level user base. That's when I quit using DS. However- many people have since moved on to now faster computers and Windows XP- and someday DAZ may take the CHOKE OFF of Daz Studio and maybe start to let it do what the 3Delight Render Engine is capable of. Their long-awaited SDK may final open the door to some very long overdue Professional features for DS...

Yep it's got my vote. Both DS and Vue will benefit from this. Theres a lot of DAZ Studio users out there that have never been near poser so Vue will be reaching a new group.

The huge loading time for Poser 6 is mostly a function of the runtime library. Next time you close Poser, switch to an empty runtime folder and you'll see that next time you open Poser it loads a lot faster. Me, I'd like to see full support for Poser files before we start on DS - many aspects of Poser materials are not translated into Vue equivalents. I don't see why not. The use of bloated ASCII files for Poser has positive as well as negative effects. At least it means they are easy to decode.

elektra posted Sun, 11 December 2005 at 5:53 AM

DAZ Studio has the same size runtime and doesn't take as long to load.

As a fairly happy Poser user I will not user a D|S plugin for Vue. On the other hand, I think a D|S import plugin would be a good move for e-on. There's many other things I'd like to see in Vue as well. Displacement mapping, a decent Poser material import, and most of all: full Python scripting. Far too many aspects of Vue can't be automated yet. By the way, there's the main reason I won't use D|S: no scripting.

The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter

DS support doesn;t make much sense to me.. the ajority of DS users are new people, who do not even want to purchase Poser 6.. so Eon should expect them to purchase an application that costs 4 times more then poser itself? I'd think Eon's resources could be better spent in other developmental areas.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.
