I just posted a quick test import using poser 6 and transposer with carrara 5 final version.... take a look came out pretty good. onlt trouble was the hair and body didn't aligned, I had to re positionHexagon, Carrara, Sculptris, and recently Sketchup.
Hoofdcommissaris posted Sun, 11 December 2005 at 10:32 AM
I had a fatal crash (Mac OSX 10.4) with dynamic hair, every time I tried. Did not test more.
I did a quick test with dynamic cloth and an imported Poser figure (bald, because of the mentioned crashing) and translucency, she is lying on a extremely glowing box.

OS10.4.3? what do you have for ram? what type of Mac? G5? I have to say that once i import a poser file My version 1 G5 dual 1.8 slows pretty heavy
Hexagon, Carrara, Sculptris, and recently Sketchup.
Hoofdcommissaris posted Sun, 11 December 2005 at 10:50 AM
G4 double 1.4 Ghz with 1Gb of DDR SDRAM. (A G5 dual is due for next year) It rendered until it 'touched' the hair part of the render. And then crashed the whole program.
thomllama posted Sun, 11 December 2005 at 10:57 AM
I'm guessing not enough ram.. it's pretty intense on the computer importing the dynamics... and it's dogging mine with 2 gig. try using transporter or just native? turn off animation?
Hexagon, Carrara, Sculptris, and recently Sketchup.

So far, my attempts at importing pz3 files into Carrara have failed about half of the time, With Transposer, I end up getting empty figures. They are listed in the list of objects in teh scene but they are simply not there. With the Native import, I get 'missing texture' warnings (which are a pain to go through when Carrara doesn't even remember that I just selected a body texture and asks me 5 times to locate the same texture map). Once the popups are over, I end up with a figure that has lost its pose most of the time. I was impressed with the beta but at this point, this is so unreliable than it is pretty much useless to me.

"With Transposer, I end up getting empty figures. They are listed in the list of objects in teh scene but they are simply not there." try going and setting XYZ all to zero.. I have noticed that it places the figure off into the ozone... but it's there. asto finding the texture maps... I'm guessing you have poser 5 also. a lot of textures that poser 6 uses are still located in the poser 5 folder... bla bla bla.. when you asign poser 6 to carrara it doesn't know to go to toe poser 5 runtime to find stuff,... this is just a guess though but worth trying, take all your textures and stuff from 5 and actually install in 6
Hexagon, Carrara, Sculptris, and recently Sketchup.

Thanks, I will check again for the position of the objects. I have poser 6, with only one runtime.

I am having great luck with importing Poser 6 files both natively and with Transposer. It is working as advertised for me. I'm on a PC. My Poser 6 runtime has been combined with Poser 5 content so I have just the Poser 6 Runtime (enhanced) and the Download Runtime (also P6 SR2 update installed). Eovia is great! I almost thought P6 was a waste. I even uninstalled Poser 5 yesterday.
Goodluck everyone,
Stan

1gb of ram isn't enough for Carrara?
Do these poser issues with hair and transposer issues with dynamic hair mean 'patch time' sometime in the near future?
Will I be likely to face these issues with Poser 5 rather than Poser 6? If Carrara has all the features it seems to have, my reasons for considering an eventual Poser upgrade might not be that valid anymore - unless it makes it more difficult to integrate with other apps.

I'M Just guessing there. actually I have tried to render a more detailed file with jessi import and it seems to always crash carrara just when the render hits Jessi.. working on more detail
Hexagon, Carrara, Sculptris, and recently Sketchup.
bwtr posted Sun, 11 December 2005 at 6:11 PM
arcady. I think its not just the ram but the amount of free space in the scratch disk. I am fortunate to have some 18GB free in the scratch disk allocation. However,Carr5 does not seem to work at any where near the same quality level with Poser6 stuff as it does with Poser5 stuff . We can but hope that a fix is in the pipeline.

I'll have to try rendering the White Queen version of Jessi from the SE version of Poser 6 in the Carrara house on my P3 1GHz 1GB RAM system with Carrara Pro 5.0.1 and see if it crashes.

Well I think the first bookshelf is more interesting, in a Salvador Dali sort of way... yeah, looks like a patch is needed. :) You should send this on to eovia, if you haven't already.

Does there seem to be any thread here...Is mac working worse than pc etc...really helpful if you posted specifics.Everyone got p6 patch? I would definitely report to eovia.1gig of ram should not cause this that is for sure. Could a texture path issue be to blame or certain file format? Have you got anymore insight after looking at the textures once they come in?

Already reported.....
Poser6 Sr2..WinXP Pro...4G of ram & Nvidia 6800Ultra/on board 256K. P4 3.2GHZ The bookcase worked in C4P :) I saved it out of there as a .car to work in the scene I'm working on. Was Using Poser 6 there as well :) The stockings didn't work in either C4P or C5P.....They are from a package at Daz called Christmas Past. That said...all worked fine in other applications :)

I'm with Steama. I am on a PC and have had great luck with Poser 6 files and animations. Just watch the hair. The Update for C5 looks to fix some of the trouble I have had before.
R_Hatch posted Mon, 12 December 2005 at 12:21 AM
When you use them in Poser, do those stockings by any chance use a morph to attain the 'stocking' shape? Or is the 'cup' shape a morph? Perhaps even a hidden morph that is in the CR2/PP2 that doesn't have any visible dials in Poser?
steama posted Mon, 12 December 2005 at 2:12 AM
Things seem to be working qiute well with Poser 6 and C5Pro. I have experienced one anomaly, however, using Transposer with the link to the Poser file selected I went back into Poser and made some edits, re-opened my Carrara scene and the textures went nuts on render. I opened the same figure in a new document and all work well again. I really don't expect it to be perfect but a reliable way to import Poser 6 files. It seems to be doing that quite well. I hope Eovia can address the problems some of my forum colleagues are having. Good Luck to all, Stan

Looks like the Mac version needs an update. Anways Eovia always releases an update a bit later after a release. I'm sure the will be updating it. Ringo

I gave it another try last night :
And I get the same problems as reported before.
With Transposer, my character appears completely empty.
I checked position and scale - not a problem. It looks like the object just has no geometry.
With Native import, I didn't go through the whole texture import thing . I gave up after a warning of missing .obj file and the first warning of missing texture.
I guess I will have to wait for the update. For the record, I am running XP, Poser 6 SP2 and I have more RAM than I know what to do with...

Agiel, do you have the correct Poser application path selected in the Transposer import dialog? Also, with native import all you have to do is drive to or do a search to find the missing .obj file and import will find everything else. At least that is the way it worked for me at first. Now I can just import any figure. Carrara needs to know where the geometry is in the runtime or where ever you have it on your computer. Good Luck, Stan

Yep to #1. About #2, it still asks me each time I try to load it.
ShawnDriscoll posted Mon, 12 December 2005 at 11:59 PM
I imported the Winter Queen from Poser 6 SE into Carrara Pro 5.01 and she was standing in the Carrara House beautifully. When I rendered the scene with Ambient Occlusion, her eyes were totally black though. So I thought her eye textures were clobbered like in the old TransPoser 2. But when I shined a bulb on her face, her green eyes were there just fine. No crashes using just imported Poser 6 content.

Are you all using transposer 2.1? It's on the eovia site. Love esther
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
dlk30341 posted Tue, 13 December 2005 at 10:37 AM
I'm using native Poser import & whatever version they included in the final release. C5Pro...should be updated to 2.1...as it comes with final.

esther. Trying to load the 2.1 update into C5Pro tells me that C5 is not properly installed!!! (I have reported it) I am having problems with stuff from Poser, even imported as .obj or 3ds either crashing Carrara or coming in with nil size or -------minus size. I am close to expunging Poser6 from the computer, AGAIN, because it may be the cause of all my troubles.

CPro 5 already includes the latest version of TransPoser. The download on Eovia's site is for standard C5.

Poser 6 support is excellent; even pulls in CRZs with ease. I can't wait until I'm using the real deal instead of the demo :D
