Gotta love it! Now...who's willing to step up and redo Gojira (Godzilla) so we can have King Kong vs. Godzilla?

It looks really nice, however, taking a scan or screencap from a movie or movie stills to use in a distributable texture without the permission of the movie makers is a copyright violation. We wouldn't allow you to distribute it here at all, and, frankly, could get you in trouble. A better way would be to go to your local zoo, and take photos of the gorrillas there, and use those photos to make the texture. It may not be the exact same, but you'll be in less hot water.

That's good to know. Now I will know what to do in the future.

Not even free :( I didn't mean to be a wet blanket, and I can see that you worked really hard on it, too. I know of the figures by Sixus and TBKoen, and we don't have links to them in the freestuff here, either, due to the nature of copyright. We try to turn a blind eye to fanart in the galleries, but we don't allow redistribution links in the Free Stuff area. It looks like a great texture from here. It really and truly does. I'd take it as a learning experience and go with it from there. You might even be able to find some scientific or nature sites that will give you some good textures of gorilla hair and skin for use in a free texture for the Gorilla (and, I totally agree that it needs a good one ;) ).

Scott_A has modeled and rigged different three Goji' figures (the "pug" looking 70s version, the 90s version and the "Final Wars" broad shouldered "body builder"). He personally no longer has a site, but he has publicly sated he does not mind people sharing his creations. The "FW" edition does not have a texture map, but if you use Poser 5 or 6, I've tinkered a material node setting that serves well enough for his "tree bark" scales.
Above is a test render using Poser 6.
Sincerely,
Bill

Sweet Mother of Chrome! That's a great image, Bill. Got a URL for those Goji figures?
Redfern posted Tue, 13 December 2005 at 5:41 PM
I thought ScottA might have still provided a link upon his artist page for the FW Goji', but it's no longer there. However, there are two online repositories for his figures. I don't have the link available at the moment, but I'm sure someone will post them soon enough. Oh, and thank you for the kind sentiment, though it was really more of a test render to see how my scaly material would appear under IBL occlusion. Sincerely, Bill

Here's the link to Scott Ayers'models, but his Final Wars version is not there, either. Poo!However, his two other versions are available. Please note there are actually several pages to the repository.
Sincerely,
Bill

I wish there was a way to do transparent fur that worked<<
I have the gorilla on my "todo list" for real fur. But I must complete all the dog packs first. And a couple of other creatures are sitting in the reception room waiting to get furred. :oP But after that... you never know...

hmm Sixus1 got dynamic hair onto his new Gorilla...
Talos posted Tue, 13 December 2005 at 10:01 PM
I didn't know Sixus had a new gorilla. I wanted to talk to him about doing one (that looked like the OLD King Kong with the big funny cartoony square head), but didn't know how to contact him. He did transparent hair on his Bigfoot. As for me, I suppose there are worse things than having a good looking customized gorilla model that only I can use.

That is one good looking gorilla. Great work with the hair/fur.
Good to see more furred animals.
Now I don't have to do a furred gorilla. :o)

I love Sixus, but it looks more like another Bigfoot than a gorilla. Kind of cartoony, and the brow ridge is too flat, and the teeth are WAY to small for a gorilla. The big canine gnashers on King Kong (both versions) are a big part of the fun. On the plus side, it's about time someone did a gorilla with transparent fur already. The price is good, as usual.
