I have been doing this 3d poser stuff now for a few years :) back in the 90's :) late 90's mind you. I was just wondering if I am the only Poser artist from Ottawa?
Acadia posted Tue, 13 December 2005 at 4:58 AM
A friend of mine is currently living in California, but she's moving to Ottawa in the spring. She uses Poser, but is new to it. Does she count? :) I'm your neighbour a Province west of you :)

Well there certainly enough people from Canada here. I am sure there even more as I know Carol one of my old testing partners is Canadian to :) Sadly I must admit I had a hidden ajenda... I am a film student at CU and I was trying to assees if I ever did an independant film if there would be Poser artist located locally I may be able to capitalize off of. There is nothing in the planning just thought I would see what the water was like. If I ever do one it will be a very short piece with a quick turn around that will very low budget. Cool to here from you all thanks for your replies. Deimos

I find it kind of Ironic that as though it's titled Poser and seems it was originally created as a tool for artists to Pose models for Life Drawings, but 'y know, I've never ever heard of anyone doing that, LOL

Osborne Village??? If memory serves that's just a stones throw from where I used to live! I used to live in the "Colony Square" apartments on Portage during the early 80's when I was in my "rebellious 20's". I remember going to see "Streetheart" at "The Plaza" (referred to as "the Zoo" back then) as well as the "Big A" (Assiniboine Hotel), ... I' feel a swelling of nostalgia coming on :)

krimpr,
Well the Zoo is still the Zoo, but the clientelle are markedly more animal like in keeping with the name, and the Big A is still doing fine with the jazz jams etc that it started. Since you've been here they have [city planners] totally destroyed Portage Ave. downtown by adding overhead cross walks connecting a massive development on Portage north side with the south side of the street, thus ytotally wiping out that huge expansive feeling one use to get when walking from the Bay to Eaton's[which is also gone]...sigh...it just ain't my town anymore, not the way I like it anyhow dammit. In my rebellious 50's I am tempted to get active again the whole manipulation of the physical aspect of how they're manipulating this town so disgusts me...all LegoLand if y get my drift, but at least we've managed to save 'nuff old buildings here to bring Hollywood calling, heh heh heh..and it is a fantastic summer here so far as well tho due to my paying my prop. taxes I'll be missing the FolkFest for only the second time in 31 years...sigh...at least I'll have an empty Winnipeg to myself for the weekend LOL

Hey thanks for the update Bobby! It's interesting to hear what's happened over the years. The apartment complex I lived in while I was there was part of a twin "highrise" setup right on Portage, and at that time that was next to a large Army Surplus store which was where I spent much (o.k., too much) of my disposable income. Back then it was more important that I had a genuine army inflatable for the Red River than a full refridgerator. Ah, memories... I'm about to check the tire pressure on my boat trailer as I've got a friend with a big truck coming in a couple of hours to tow it to the lake for me so I'd better get back to it. Some things never change. The difference is that now I can manage to eat, too :) Say hello to Winnipeg for me!

I actually see that building from my living room window. I live in a river front highrise.
I haven't been at that corner in quite awhile, but I think the Army Surplus store is still there, next to the Hudson's Bay.
"The Zoo" is still there. I've never been there, but from what I hear the name is quite suitable for the clientelle, LOL It's apparently not a place for the faint hearted.
OMG! the "Big A"?!!! Talk about a blast from the past. That was one of my haunts back in 1979 to the early 1980's. Had some great times there! I think it's still there and going strong.
What years did you live in Winnipeg? If it was around that time, there was another club in Old Market Square called "Bogarts". It was across from the "Old Spaghetti Factory" in an old bank building. It's been closed for years though, but it was a great club.

Hey, this is too cool! I was there from early '82 to early '86; just before the shuttle disaster. I don't remember "Bogarts", but spent alot of Friday nights at "The big A", the Zoo (depending on who was playing... it got pretty wild even back then), an old hotel then called "The Kent", and a place called "Sodas". Who knows; maybe we've met? I loved the Zoo there (with actual real animals I mean as opposed to the ones at the bar). Beautiful park and pavillion. Geez... thanks Acadia and Bobby for the walk down memory lane; Winnipeg shared some good times with me.
Acadia posted Mon, 03 July 2006 at 9:00 PM
That's wild! We probably have met. I used to go to the Big A nearly every night at one time, and definitly every Friday and Saturday.
