hi there.... i am trying to get a glow effect in poser 6 on a set of v3 eyes...how do i go about doing this pls ?

In the material room, change the color of the ambient color you would prefer. Then under that is a value. 1.000 is the strongest or can use the gather nod somewhere. Will look into using a gather nod and post my results.

Here's an earlier thread that might help, as it discusses the gather node, which is quite nice for things the glow would "illuminate" There's also an article over at RDNA, under the P6 tutorials about using the Ambient Color for glow effects.

Download svdl's "Standing Mirror" from free stuff. Look at how he did the reflection material, and adjust it from there.

And don't forget to turn on raytracing, without raytracing you won't have reflections!

Can this be done in Poser 5?

The Gather node does not exist in Poser 5, so - no. But you can look into the probeLight node. Mirror reflections work fine in P5, that standing mirror randym77 mentioned was made for (and in) P5.

And make sure at least one light is set to ray-tracing, or you won't get any reflections, either.

My aspiration: to make a decent Poser Render I'm an Oldie, a goldie, but not a miracle worker :-)

OMG! I have poser 6 and I can do this glowing stuff now!!! I'll have to try it!

barrowlass - Wow, that looks hot! Do you still have this material, would you show us a screenshot of the material room?

this thread was dated 2005. the above figure's right hand is shadowed, even tho it's apparently holding a glowing object. but poser lacks alotta real-world optics, including glow, dispersion, caustics et al. to be honest, I dunno if it would be worthwhile tryinta fake glow in poser, whether with the gather node (for colour bleed) or with a light source. just use another renderer that actually has a glow channel.
Angelouscuitry posted Thu, 17 May 2007 at 12:54 AM
Miss Nancy - I know, I saw the date, and figured it was worth the chance.
I've had plenty of success with Poser Glow! Nalif(Bioluminescence thread) Stewer(Lightprobe, and from Raven(whom is in another thread with me) have each shown me different techniques. Each technique does actually render in a scene without light. Raven's even cast's light!
I'm hoping this is yet another!
It's late now, but I'll show some render/scrrenshots tomorrow, if anyone hits me with an e-bot tomorrow!

I'd love to see what you've come up with. I need to look at various techniques for an image I'm working on now.
markschum posted Thu, 17 May 2007 at 9:11 AM
If you have poser 6 or 7 you can put a point light inside whatever you want to glow , or use a spotlight sized very small , that will give you light on adjacent surfaces that ambiant does not provide .

After working for about 6 hrs I finally came up with that glow to my liking. Was hard to do it but I did. I posted the image in my gallery here at rendo. I really want to thank all those that input their ideas, without you I would be bald. LOL.
