i thought this was a Poser 4 issue. I've been working on a scene for an hour, and now it wo'nt let me save my progress?

Do you have the latest Service Release (SR2) installed? That sounds like a pre SR1 error.

and very much a post SR2 error so be careful. I installed SR2 and had no problems with it until I had a complex pic then ran out of memory on a 1.5 gig machine! It did the same with dynamic clothing and with rendering a pic with texture filtering on. Memory problems are still a huge Poser issue and will continue to be, I suspect, until/unless they rewrite the core program.

Running out of memory while rendering has nothing to do with the saving bug...

The inability to save due to out of memory errors is definitely something that goes away after installing the first service pack. Watch out -- if you were trying to save over an old file, the old file could be toast now too. The SR1 fix is awesome. I am having a lot more troubles of other kinds after installing the second service pack, though, so be careful.

nightsong - I agree that SR1 is awesome; I'm not convinced about SR2. I've found another error - it won't open files saved under SR1. Dizzi - I know the faults are unrelated - just giving Angelous a further example of memory related probs in SR2. I too have experienced the saving bug.

Does/did Poser have a 'Memory Leak'?
Angelouscuitry posted Tue, 20 December 2005 at 4:57 PM
I found that turning off Edit > Preferances > Misc > External Binaries worked like a charm. I havn't had any problems saving since then! I hav'nt installed any updates yet, but thank you all for the SR1-SR2 comparison! = )

@DareWolf No, Poser doesn't have a memory leak but it really uses the available memory as inefficient as possible. Terminating the rendering engine frees all memory. I hope they fix this in SR3 or Poser 7 since it's been a problem in Poser 5 also.
