I just bought Poser 6 a few weeks ago for the sole reason of replacing my actors with digital doubles for difficult or dangerous stunts. So far i have found the results to be quite impressive- although they're not good enough yet to actually use in my films. When i use a spot, point or infinite light the results look excellent, but everytime i use IBL my figure looks completely washed out and even a little cartoonish. Isn't IBL supposed to be used for even more realistic results? Isn't that the whole point of it? Like i said my results with the other light settings are very good, i just dont understand why IBL looks so much worse compared to them. Thanks.

IBL on its own IMO doesn't give good results. You need to turn shadows off on the IBL light, and add separate light(s) for shadows and specularity. You can use ambient occlusion with the IBL, or better still use AO nodes on relevant materials - Occlusion Master in the MP will do this very easily for you. Then you should get pretty good renders. This is just my take on it - fully expecting to be corrected by others!

Yes, I echo the guys above. Throw up an IBL light for general GI, but put AO on objects through the material room shader nodes. Use a spot or point light to make eyes glow or explode a bright spot on your set/character/hair. As soon as you turn AO on, you are into ray trace. Be sure to turn on off "visible in raytrace" for any dynamic hair. Occlusion Master rocks! ::::: Opera :::::

Hi, in the beginning with Poser6 I also was very unhappy with the IBL-results and I was certain that Ill never will have good renders again. But than I found Magic Lights by hman and since I never had any problems with the IBL again.

So, it wouldn't hurt to put in, say, a spotlight upon using the IBL lighting? I noticed that while playing with IBL in P6, it makes my characters so dark by using the IBL alone.

put up the IBL light. bring in one spot. experiment with the intensity of both, you have to strike a balance. ::: og :::
