Quick question :) which I suspect has an even quicker answer. can you get a cloth simulation to drape at the last frame, without exporting the cloth and reimporting and starting a new simulation? Thanks John :)

I'm not quite sure what you mean, but after all the posing is done you could just add a frame (or more) then set the "end frame" simulation setting to match. The cloth will continue to drape while the object remains in it's last position.

Unfortunately that doesnt work :( once the sim has started the mesh only reacts to collisions, so when you add frames to the end the cloth doesnt do anything. John

You also need to change which frames the simulation calculates for. The default is just frames 1 through 30.
