I am wanting to get the size of a string of text to uniformly reduce in size over the length of the path it is assigned to. I have tried using the 'create warped text' function but this distorts both the text and the path which is not what I want. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I would go about doing this. Version CS2. Shane

Rasterize the text, then select that layer and use the Transform functions under the Edit pull down menu.

There you can warp, skew, scale, whatever...

Hope this helps.

Usually when I need to manipulate the text I use vector program. Because they dont manipulate the pixels, they manipulate the vectors. In other words you can resize the font or any other graphic from very little to very big without losing the quality at all. Thats the main reason, but you need the curved text and that can be done in a second in FreeHand or Illustrator, etc. They have many tools just for manipulating the text. When you done just export in .EPS and you`ll get the transparency in PS :) Tihomir

Cryptojoe, rasterizing just combines the text elements into a transformable 'whole'. Transforming the text at this point distorts it from the original path. Tantarus, I understand what you are saying regarding the advantages of vector over raster, but unless I am missing something in Illustrator I still have the same problem as mentioned above regarding the distortion from the original path. The example picture shows what I want to do. In the example the font point starts at 90 and reduces to 10 over the length of the sentence. Each letter was edited separatley to assign point size. A time consuming way of doing things. Could this be done with an action, or would the action be confined to working on a string of text that contained the same number of letters in it each time? Thanks for the help so far. Shane

Dont now whats the problem if you follow this way: First draw the desired path, then select the Path type tool and click on the path, type the text and then change the font size or path shape. If you want to move the text on the path, click on the begining of the text with the direct selection tool and drag forward or backward. Here is the example from the Illustrator :) Tihomir

Tantarus, I'm not having any problems in getting the text on the path or positioning it along the path. My original question at the start of the thread was asking if there was a way of getting the text to reduce in font size from the first to the last letter other than editing the font size of each individual letter entered in the sentence. If you take your example, which has a uniform font size along the length of the sentence, and rasterize it or peform any scale/skew/warp transformation on the text as a whole, it distorts the text and moves the text from the original path. The reason behind the question is that my kids are doing some creative writing for school and are trying to get the effect of their writing going down a drain like water going down the plug hole in a bath. The text needs to go in a spiral and get smaller as it gets closer to the plug hole. Shane

How to Create Spiral Type in Illustrator

This example in Illustrator changes the size of the text every couple/few words rather than each letter.

Very cool tut., the text should go down a drain now :) Tihomir
