Gee, first day of the New Year and I can't remember how to put a sub cat in the preset files...In the user file in presets, how do I make sub cats like in the installed preset folder? I thought this year was going to be easier on the mind...:}

I usually just go to the user file in Bryce (under presets), copy and rename it to something else, then start sticking in and taking out mats. Note- the file will not change sizes to smaller, even if there's no mats in it.

In other words after I copy the file I need to delete everything in it to get a blank starter file? Then from then one I just keep copying the blank to use...Just want to check! Unless someone has a location for a blank starter file...

Just use Windows Explorer, open for example Objects ,create a new file & name it whatever you want. When you open Bryce, its there.

Hey, Thanks to both of you for a quick response..The combination of ideas made me think...I simply took the installed folder called Tuts (which I never used) and renamed it BLANK and now I got it from now on..EASY..:}

dadt, Yes but the trouble with that is that when the file gets too big Bryce can freeze, since deleting a mat or an object from inside the presets folder merely delete the thumbnail not the actual mat or object. There is a location for free blank presets... hang on... Here it is, Peggy Walter's website, she does a tutorial on how to organise the presets, plus - she has blank presets for download as well.Measure

Yes,Ive noticed that when you delete objects the actual file in the presets does not get smaller and can grow very large. When starting a new project I open a new file under objects and bring each object I am using into an empty Bryce scene, apply the textures then save it into the temporary file. Once all the objects have been saved I start the main Bryce scene. Once the project is complete then I delete the temporary file complete from Windows Explorer.

I have mine organized by materials ; metals, organic, buildings, FX, etc..they're running about 25 meg each..believe me, after you get a couple hundred mats loaded, you start getting duplicates, and have trouble finding things..worked for me..

If I am just going to use an object for a scene, I usually just import them all and save as a scene and then delete when finished or move to disk...
