  1. Please nominate the coolest screen names you have seen here at the forum. Please do not list your own name or any dumb ill-considered names selected by poor unfortunate newbies.

I like the screen names svdl, Bobasaur, Marque, Acadia, Casette, pigfish9, pokeydots, and for sure anonymous1. There are others but I have tried to be cold and keep it to my eight favorite.

  1. What is the dumbest screen name you ever had? How many newbies are called "cyberboy2001"? I have always been momodot for better or worse but I used to have the e-mail address mail.here@mail.com and that made a lot of people really angry... then I was null@sprint.com and that made a lot of automated systems really angry.

Please, this thread is supposed to be fun... try not to hurt anyone's feelings. When in doubt remember discretion is the better part of valor :)

In answer to your question, though, Claire will kill me if I don't say PurpleJelly is the coolest screen name ever. As for me, I've always been Sam Therapy or some variation thereof since hooking up to the internet. I have, for nefarious purposes, used several other names, including but not limited to, Captain Funypants, Strattus Cattus, Northern Monkey, JCM2000, :BLACK:, Sacrecrow2001, Crasspy McTabernacle, Brutus O'Hooligan and Sammy Haemoglobin.

SyydRaven is another cool name. I picture a kick-ass rocker chick, sorta like Pat Benetar. I can't think of any more off the bat that I can think of that really strike me as names I've remembered since I first saw them. I'll probabaly remember one at about 3am :P

My original screen name was exceedingly dumb which I decided to change after asking too many stupid questions. So much for artist's integrity. Regarding the question, I had not given it much thought except, like MorriganShadow, the more difficult names do stick a little. What's weird is that there's several names that come often in the threads. I have imagined their personalities based on what I read. I should get out more often. I'd be more interested to know WHY someone chooses the name that they have. No offense but what does "momodot" for instance mean?

ratscloset posted Tue, 03 January 2006 at 9:41 PM

Well, I have to nominate mine for the stupidest.

I was PackRat at several sites for obvious reasons, but the ISP I had went under and I forgot the password I had creatively came up with. With no way to retrieve it, I had no choice but to create a new accounts. I was a bit down on myself for not keeping better records so I created a new account with the Screen Name of RatsAss. I was informed it violated the TOS, so I went with an old Domain Name, which was Packratscloset. Too Long. I knew Packrat was already used, so I became ratscloset and I as I joined other sites, I kept using it!

Pretty stupid, huh? I will admit, I have stuck with it, and it seems to fit me now. (that brings up another question, are we our Screen Name, or do we eventually become our screen name?)

I like simple and cute names like Acadia Casette MrSparky and others like that. But after browsing the Internet and participating in forums for 7 years, I am still not comfortable using screen names when I address someone. I prefer using given names. That is why I always try to use my given name (or rather a shortcut for it) as my username. This is "France". When "France" is already taken, I use Francemi which is France plus the initials of my 2 other given names. I don't know if it is because I speak French that I don't like using screen names or if it is just because I am like that, but there it is. ;o)

The spelling and nickname been with me for a very long time (let's see, since before high school, so over 25 years, lol). And there's the reality of it, as well, LOL Let's see... My favorite names are usually somerhitng intersting that has given me pause or that tells a story. LOL strangely enough, both Stonemanson and Blonderella are two of my faves. I like to see creative, personal names that are somehow related to the individual. For me, though, the dumbest names come from popular culture stuff -- which I realize isn't very fair of me at all, as for some people, being Darth Ixtlpith really is important. Aside from those few, though, some of the other names on my personal top ten list: Igohigh Traveller (who is my "poser god") Ratscloset SamTherapy MrSparky (who I still keep seeing in three different ways) bastblack (intrigues me) The remaining two I'm keeping secret, lol

I was considering changing it as of the new year, but it was just too complicated at many sites, and I now have a matching E-mail Address, thus it remained. I will have to admit that some of my Favorites are real peoples names. (Jaegar (sp) comes to mind and TPounders, well I believe that is an initial and last name.) The ones that throw me are TrekkieGirl, since she goes by a different name here and then there is MorriganShadow who is the same name, but two different people at various sites! Talk about confusing!

I think many are amusing or intriguing but don't have a favorite. I tend to appreciate the ones that are a bit 'over the edge' unusual combinations of words (like "voodomessiah") or spellings (like "ynsaen") or names that simply make you wonder "(William The Bloody" - I'm not familiar with the show so I've always wondered if he was a vampire or something [grin]).

I thought SamTherapy was a real name....

As far as dumb names I've used, Bobasaur is the only name I've ever used and I'm not sure it's dumb. I chose it when I was a newbie because I wanted to put a twist on a very common name (Bob) that had nothing to do with my real name (Kevin) and guard my identiy - at least a little - in this wild chaotic online environment.

Acadia posted Wed, 04 January 2006 at 11:11 AM

The origin of my name came after careful thought. My nicknames are an extension of me; be it something that interests me or is a part of my personal history. I also tend to go with "normal" names that are easy to pronounce and type :) I picked "Acadia" because I'm part French Canadian and liked the sound of it. One drawback of it though is that people tend to automatically assume it's ARcadia. I did a search of the site and found that I'm the first "Acadia" here. I noticed that a few who have come after me have used the longer variation "Acadian". I have used other nicks on other sites using a pet's name, a favourite cartoon character, Greek Gods, celesteal bodies, cars, flowers, geographic locations (IE: Countries), US States etc. I usually tag something to the end of it, often again, something that is meaningful to me. Someone asked if we are our nicknames, or if we become them. For me my nickname is just an extension of who I am; a name that is "annonymous" to use on the internet. Real name, or nickname, it doesn't matter; I'm me know matter what name I use.

Flip to Francemi I consider it a courtesy to always use people's screen names, even if I know their real names well, even if I am responding to a post they just ended with their real_world name... why? In all truth the funniest name I ever saw was on Harmony Central. One of the guys there was called Johnny Shithead (pronounced Shih-theed). Another worthwhile mention from the same place was Pastor of Muppets but I guess you'd have to be a Metallica fan to dig the reference. As for my handle, well it stems from the fact that one of my bands is called King Dice. All clear now? No, I thought not. :)

I'm still waiting to see someone use Gloria_Stits. If I had been of the alternate gender I would have scooped that one. As it stands now I've decided that may favorite is ynsaen. Her posts are fun to read too.

I'm one of the schizophrenic ones. I've got 2 names and it annoys me greatly. MOST places I'm TrekkieGrrrl nowadays, but when I discovered the internet I soon took up Ern Yoka. That, too has a funny story. Ern is old norse for "The Clever One"..er... I thought.. it perhaps could rub off... and Yoka... stems from a bad habit I had years and years ago. It's a tag. It's also a silly way to spell Joker. TrekkieGrrrl is pretty straightforward I guess. Some claim I should change it to Snape's Grrrl... but there's already so many of those, so... I do call myself Trekkie and answer to Trekkie. For instance I called BenDover at New Year's eve and I did introduce myself as Trekkie G I have a few other names I use when I want to be incognito. So it would be rather silly to tell those LOL It's been years and years since I last used any of them though. Names I like? Well ynsaen and BenDover are among my favourites. Bobasaur too. And Wolf359 for obvious reasons. Same reason why I like Pakled (though I STILL think of you as Nu-Be)

I can't think of any actual names I strongly like or dislike, and it's mostly the person behind the ID which makes them memorable. I do struggle a little remembering the name+number combinations, and wonder just how many Karens came before our much-harassed moderator. As for my name, it's a net-identity I've used for years, starting on some online-games. People were even surprised that "Antonia" hadn't already been picked as a character-name, back in 19-[mumble]. And I still am sometimes confused with "Antonio". I use the ID, and a couple of slight variations, on several 3D sites. I don't have stripes or a tail in real life.

Cooler's dealing with some personal issues right now. Send your best wishes his way. Antonia -- not stripes or tail, eh? THat leaves claws, ya know :D lol

...wonder just how many Karens came before our much-harassed moderator. Picturing a graveyard with 1572 karens in it, all past mods of the Dreaded Posert Forum LOL. Actually the 1573 is my birthdate. Created my first net identity back in, I dunno, about '97 I suppose, and didn't really spend much time reflecting over it. Now I just use it almost everywhere, although in some places I'm pocket_saviour. I like the plays on words I see in here. BenDover is a classic, although I'm not sure I twigged to that one for a while. I don't think I twigged to ynsaen until I saw her "real name" in the member panel...

in an alternative world I used to be "musselwoman", named after a character I played in a couple of community arts films. She carted along a bucket of mussels and tried to sell 'em. Ironically I hate shellfish. Also, I'm anything but a "musclewoman" - around 7 stones (98 lbs) wet thru. It was a loooooooooooonnnng time ago, so decided to change my handle. ;-)

going back into time... I was asked to join an Adult Star Trek club (the Agerial Konfederation of Free Traders - the AKFT).. as most of the clube were Klingon, I wanted a Klingon name. I wanted the Klingon word for 'Fire', since I have red hair, I wanted to be a red haired Klingon. I shouted this across the pub to a mate of mine that speaks Klingon with him shouting back 'baH!' hence K'baH was born. over the years K'baH became Kaibach (the way K'baH is pronounced), with someone working out that baH does not mean Fire it means Open Fire on... .... my name was Open fire on the Kaptain. HAAAAYLP!!! anyway. when me and the AKFT parted ways, Kaibach became Kai Janus Bach. since everyone was grabbing Kai, I added the H to become Khai Janus Bach... ....you may now all wake up.

But now I do, thanks to Google G I get so smart from living my life in forums LOL So smart that I'm beginning to look over my shoulder for pakleds. They like smart people...
