Jeffries tubes. Named in honour of Enterprise designer Matt Jeffries.

Decades later (Next Generation, etc.), they've evolved into labyrinthian crawlspaces that connect to every part of the ship. The 24th-century equivalent of airducts.

mmmm.... maybe add a LARGE whisk so it can be used as an Intergalactic food mixer...? Or... a LARGE glass bowl to convert to coffee machine ;-)
