Above is an example of the shiny effect I'm talking about (it's an image named "Princess Orlana" that I got from either www.daz3d.com or here at renderosity (I forget which)):
If it's not possible to get the effect in the image, can someone please tell me what the next best thing is?

Should be possible. IBL lights won't create specular highlights, so you'll need to include at least one specular light in your scene. Does the sword have a reflection map?

you saw it here. it's the beautiful work of one of my favorite artists, maxxxmodelz. maxxxmodelz's gallery i find the quality of light and the photorealism of his work incredibly inspiring.

Note the base color of the metal is almost black. All it's color and ilumination comes from reflections. You could also get this using ray traced reflections in the metal, but it would take much longer to render.

Nerd, I have that outfit in my mental wish list. I saw it at your site the other day and it's beautiful!!!

Thanks. I should mention, that material isn't included. But it's pretty easy to duplicate. You could even use a "celular" node for the sphere map in P5/6. I'm just guessing but I'll bet the background image from the example is what they used for the sphere map. Nerd3D
