I think it was nrudduck who first gave me a copy of his script to cause dynamic hair to lengthen. It worked great to an extent, but I was wondering if any other strides have been made along these lines. Thanks!

I haven't seen anyone but you make use of the technique.
I was offline for several months just after posting the script and missed your post about your animation at the time.

I now understand more about the Dynamic hair, but haven't done anything public with the knowledge.

Two well known 3D apps have added some hair capability to their repetoire (Blender and Cinema4D) recently.

Your script was just what I was looking for at the time. It's limitation was that the hair dynamics didn't work while the hair was growing. It also only worked on one hair group at a time, so if there's more than one hair group you want to grow, they have to grow separately. I'm still trying to tweak it a bit to see if I can make it do more, but overall, it's still a great script.

I thought Blender was a long gone application. =:o
I remember trying it out several years ago.
Have to give it another go. Thanks, nruddock for the link.

Just thought I should add that as P6 has Python access to the Hair simulation settings, somethings that weren't possible with P5 may be doable.

Blender nearly did disappear a few years ago, but some of the original developers organised a buy out of the code (with community support), and released it under the GPL.

Another thing that was added with 2.40 was Fulid simulation (watch this space).

Would there be any way in python of copying the hair settings from one group to another (or more than one)? ie: the settings under "growth control", "dynamics control" and "styling controls". I've been trying to setup a dynamic mane and tail for the horses but getting all the group settings is a PITA g. Some way of applying the hairs material settings to all the different groups would be very useful too if it is possible. -Angela-

"Some way of applying the hairs material settings to all the different groups ..."

Provided you have P6, then yes it's possible.

I have P6 so that's great news! I'm python iliterate but have tried copying/pasting into excel like I do when working on morphs but it doesn't grab the info for some reason. -Angela-

Are you wanting all settings from one hair group (e.g. the first one) to be copied to all others for that actor, or just a particular subset ?

If your prepared tp forego the flexibility and subtlety that a GUI would give then it won't take much effort.

All the others would be fine thanks :) once the main settings are there it would be easy to just tweak the seperate ones. I'm jumping around here in excitement laughs!

See linked thread for the script. I hope the buggy setting won't cause extra work.

Thank you hugs I'll try it out as soon as my render has finished!

Sorry about that, I didn't get chance to try it until late last night! It works a treat and would be great for the beginning of any work on a human head, but (you knew that was coming didn't you g) I'm working on the various horses and need to copy the settings for the hair from one body part to the others if that makes sense? Eg. the head, neck1, neck2, neck3 and chest. Sorry to be a pain, Angela

Script updated, and new script added to do copying between body parts.

If it's still not quite what you wanted, please go into more detail about the setup your working with.

Wow that was quick work, thanks :) I have to go out now for a few hours but I will try it out as soon as I get back. Angela
