Hi I am currently using Bryce 5. I have a model jet I made in true space which I saved as 3ds the model imported fine but how do I apply my texture to the model? Thank you for your time! Jason

Bmnb, if your texture is a ready made bitmap it would be brought in as a 2D texture map in the material editor then you need to choose the mapping mode. If your model is more complex then you might have to apply texture coordinates using another software package like Uvmapper. An image of your model might help us determine exactly what it is you need to do.

it depends on how Truespace handles mapping, I s'pose. If there's a way to differentiate the colored areas you want to use, you can name them (or color them), then using Ctrl+Right Mouse click, and you can select the named areas, and apply mats from Bryce into them. If you can do that, that's how I usually wind up doing it.
There's another thing called UVMapper Classic, which you can get for free off the Web. While more involved, you can use more detailed textures (jpgs off the web, for example) to play with the big boys. I don't have the URL for the site, but there's a UVMapper forum, drop by and they'll set you right..;)

Try exporting from trueSpace as anthor format (Like.obj) 3DS is not a good format to use for retaining textures IIRC. You will have to load the "Luuv" Plugin in trueSpace as there is no native .obj export ability in trueSpace. Tom

Here is a link to a tutorial, with a link to the plugin (that doesn't seem to be working right now for some reason) Remember to create a folder for your ojcect and place the textures in that same folder. Tom

I could be wrong(it happens), but I believe UVMapper Classic only imports models in an .obj format. I'm not sure about UVMapper Pro, but UVDan would know. When I make a model in Wings I always export it as an .obj file for the very reasons Hawkfyr mentioned.

I import the UVmapped model into Bryce where it will appear as a default gray as it has not had the map applied yet.

Make sure the model is grouped and selected and go to the materials lab and hit the "p" button to go to the picture materials editor(Leo). Load your map into the first slot and select white for the second, unless your map is transparent. Then hit the checkmark and if your map fits your model properly it should show on your model.

I made a simple map for this model. I separated the various parts into different object groups by assigning them to different materials in Wings. Now I can have the best of both worlds because I can still use the Map for the hull, but I can also assign Bryce procedurals to any of the other parts(rails, ports, anchors)etc. HTH, Dan

UV Mapper Classic, and UV Mapper Pro both only handle obj files. Here is a link to the UV Mapper Forum tutorials. Look them over and they should answer some questions about textures. If you can use the plugin for truespace mentioned and get your file into obj format then you will be halfway home to having it textured.

As an alternate to using the plug in, you can import your cob file into Bryce, then export it in obj format so UV Mapper will read it.
