HI, all... OK, I am wanting to get a subscription to a 3d mag... I was THINKING 3d World, but then I saw Computer Arts, and now I'm just not sure which. Eventually, both, yes, but for right now, it's one so... help? This is for pointers and such, but also with the intention of publishing my work. If anyone has one or both of these, your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much and have a great day!! :) Jessie. :)

I've purchased both over the years but not on subscription and for me 3D World wins out over the other one. I'm being mercenary on this one though because I've had better freebies from them than the other one [lol]. Sorry it's not very scientific and I'm sure you'll get conflicting "advice" anyway! Good luck!

hmmm. Looks like it's not about the articles, but about the free stuff... Reminds me of some men's magazines, but backward...

Computer Arts is more 2D/motion graphics oriented. There's usually at least one 3d tutorial, and they review the main applications (but not so much also-rans and plugins). Their profiles and showcases tend to be print and web designers, rather than visualisation or SFX houses using 3d applications.

The free stuff doesn't bother me so much... and actually from the ads it would have appeared Computer Arts has more of it... but ok, so if I'm intending to publish my work in print? I mean, on this site a few people have been published in 3d World, right? But it's for the articles, too... I want to learn a lot of stuff...

I had two of my pictures in 3D World. One 1/2 page and the other tiny. This past year they did have some nice free things on the Cd's and they have great reviews on software. But for Post work, and painting, for looking for ideas on Illustration, etc, the Arts Mag is better.

Just to confuse things further, there's another magazine that does much the same thing called Digit..;) so many choices...;) I tend to trip down to the local B&N, and just see what's on the CD's..;) More expensive, but then I don't wind up with endless tutorials on Photoshop on CD (now if they offered Photoshop as a freebie..then we'd be talkin'..;)

Well the 3d side of things is where I'd prefer to have tutes. I feel fairly secure with the postwork/painting side of things. I'm sure I could learn MORE, but I feel I have a lot more to learn with 3d than I do with post... so I guess 3D World is the one.... LOL, pakled. I'm in Canada, so we don't have B&N here... Chapters is our store... maybe I should have a look and see if they have single copies there too. :) THanks all for your help! Leah, congratulations! :)
