Hmmm Poser 6 was running reasonably, but render times were still slow using the onboard graphics processor, so off to the shop. I bought a 256Mb Radeon 9550 card. Now render times are slower.. Grrr. (Yes the card is Open GL.) Any ideas anyone. Probably a stupid question, but it just doesn't seem to make sense. I just tested my old 800 Mhz thinkpad with 512 Mb RAM and onboard video renders Vickie 3 in the same time as a 2.4Ghz Celeron, 512 Mb RAM and a 256Mb video card. I know my system is still pityfully underpowered, but surely I'm missing something.

Your gfx card has absolutely no influence on the rendering time, it's all cpu related. Processes running in the background, other apps open and such do influence the render-time a lot.

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(
Food for thought.....

more RAM may help the consensus say that at least 1gb of RAM show noticable change it does for me mine AMD 2400+ 1gb RAM my render times are not to bad even with animations
You might as well PAY attention, because you can't afford FREE speech

if you are rendering preview, the card WOULD have a tremendous influence. However, on the assumption that you are not, but that the ONLY thing you changed was the video card (and now render is slower)...... 1) are you sure OpenGL hardware acceleration is on? 2) if on, turn it to software and see if that makes any difference. 3) are you positive you have the latest and greatest driver software installed for the card? Don't trust any CD that might have come with it....go to the card mfg website and download. just suggestions. ::::: Opera :::::
