Hi, I just needed to make a quick bit of 3D text for a project and opened up one of the logo-scene wizard preset things. I picked the HDRI one. It's just about exactly what I needed, added a little reflection on the ground, increased the ambient light a tiny bit.....I would like to get rid of the shadows though and therein lies my problem. I turned off cast (and receive) shadows on both the text and the infinite plan but I still get shadows...? Am I missing something here? Thanks H&B

It sounds like you need to stop the light source from projecting shadows. Not 100% but maybe;) Michael; not so familiar with Carrara:)
I never intended to make art.

I don't think you can switch shadows off for SkyLight. You could do a couple of things depending on what you are after. Switch off SkyLight in the Render room and push up Ambient Light so that there is enough light on you scene (normally you would have no ambient light at all in GI). Or delete the plane so that it's no there to receive shadows.

I think falcon is right on this one. If you're getting light from the GI engine, the objects will iterfere regardless of the shadow settings. "Flooding" the scene with a little extra ambient is a neat idea and may do the trick. -Kix

THanks guys, I'll give your suggestions a try. Though I can

Have you tried switching off shadows in the render room as well? That should do what you want - not render any shadows at all.

Anastatis20...that won't work here.

How come? (if anyone knows) I've switched shadows off most of Carrara's other light types and gotten skylight rendering to work as I wanted. It would be interesting to know, having just tried it for myself. I've never switched shadows off an hdri render before because they generally aren't too obvious compared to the other lights in Carrara.

I am guessing here, but it simply seems that those options aren't tied to the render options. There is no unique GI option altho a transparency one. And the raytrace option isn't tied to that either. All I know is just disabling shadows by itself doesn't work here.
