AS i don't want to go back to win98..i will try to solve why i'm having installation problems with xp before i attempt to install it again. One problem i may have is ram..i have 3 dimm slots on my mobo and i think that one lot of ram was placed in the wrong dimm..anyway i'm more upseat at the fact i CAN'T even mess around with bryce at the moment because i don't have it installed on the computer i'm using to post these messages :)

For $12,000 you can get a quad G5 with a quadro fx 4500 card, a terabyte of internal storage, 8GB of RAM, and two 30" cinema displays at 2560x1600 pixel resoltion [/end shameless Mac G5 plug] THat looks cool, but at those prices they could call them "sports car replacements" hehe

What are you symptoms? I had trouble with XP on my new computer at work. SATA disk, though. I first installed XP on one of two partitions. But it broke when I installed motherboard drivers. Then it refused to install on a partition at all - it would copy files and then simply get stuck around 60%, so I had to make whole disk one partition. And it still went to hell with mobo drivers. Finally, a colleague suggested adding drivers from Windows themselves instead of using the mobo CD launcher. That installation went fine and I simply split the drive into two partitions later with Acronis Disk Director. Now everything is fine. AS, that looks great. Imagine, running Bryce and three instances of Lightning on one computer. :-) I could buy a decent car with that money...

$42K on one PC Tower? Never, lol. I would spend the same amount on building a render farm out of mainstream parts. For $850 I could build a good/complete enough tower...divided by $42K, that's equals almost 50 PC's. Wonder what my electricity bill would be like? Wonder how fast my girlfriend would move out? AS

Erlik, i had problems with copying files..it looks like i found the problem after two days of nearly pulling my hair out and snarling at the wife when she spoke to me. I had put another 512mb ram in and after removing that everything worked fine..i should leave the adding of ram to those that know what to do. On this mother board there are 3 slots for ram, 2 run along side each other and the other is about 1/4-1/2 an inch away from them, i had placed the new ram in one of the 2 slots that run along side each other leving my old ram in its original slot. I have a strange feeling i was ment to run my old ram and the new ram in those two slots that run side by side...

I meant to write seven, but you cannot assign an IP address to a core, right? CD, if you're using different RAM modules, some of them simply can't stand each other. Then, some of the modules want to be in a specific slot. Then, speed of individual modules also plays a role. Finally, you may need to set a jumper to install faster RAM.

Erlik the ram i have are both 512 ddr. now one is pc3200 and the other is ddr 400mhz. I was informed when i bought the pc3200 ram that it was 400mhz as well.. After looking at the sticker on the sencong lot of ram it has NPC N7773 DDR512 PC3200 on it and that is all so i took it to be correct because it was from a shop and the tech guy told me it was 400mhz.

hmm..just think, though, your house would never be cold in the winter..;)
As for the memory, they change DIMMs like women's fashions. On some systems, you have to add memory in pairs, but considering you have 3 slots, that's not likely. The best thing to do is to add identical sizes, speeds, brands, etc. Also check with the mobo manufacturer to see what kind of memory it takes, what's recommended, etc.
I've seen all sorts of strangeness with memory. Here's a triva bit you probably don't hear about; some vendors say never mix gold-connectors with silver-colored connectors on different Dimms, they cause corrosion..;) what'll they think of next?..;)

YOu should be aable to do that AS. I've ran two copies of Bryce on my dual core machine fine and they both rendered good at the same time. HAdn't tried it with lightning yet though.

Wow.

Buying 4 alienware stations is better cash/performance balance I think but it's still hot ;) Too bad bryce doesn't support multi-core cpu's or multi-cpu systems, doesn't feature 64-bit optimization and thus won't be able to use more then 4gb's of that ram and only one of them cores :-P lol
