I'll have to keep an eye on this thread. Ive had no luck in the past with box modelling heads and bodies.

Ive had more luck since getting ZBrush though;)

the secondreality tut that quinlor posted is what I've been using for modeling heads... I haven't tried the other head modeling tutorials that are out there.

The link isn't a tutorial, but it's an awesome body topology thread that Steven Stahlberg had started... it's pretty helpful because of the feedback, not just on yer own work but also on other ppl's work. The screenshots ppl post of their wires can be helpful too. It all helped me to model the body n hands of my first character without following a tutorial

Well I like the second reality tutorials too. I like this one to get the basic head shape going. It is quick and easy. Ther eis no detail on the head but for low res it is quite good. If I more detail I add loops similar to what is done in the second reality tutorial already posted. I tried to find the Joan of arc tutorial which is quite good.(sorry no dice) It is more anime style but it does clothing and everything.

Joan of Arc per request... ...and should the above fail...here it is in french as well but you can still follow the pictures and probably figure out some of the words if you're familiar with any latin based languages.... http://mr2k.3dvf.net/tutorials/max/tutorials_joan.htm
