Nice one Kort, the sky has turned out good there, and a dramatic light for the castle :) (see you suffered from the sharpening too) Thx for the image to play with Simon :)

Yeah...a little suffering from the JPEG compression. Very common with the skys when doing my IR conversion - Channel mix can be touchy. Love your rendition...I've gotta get me that flood filter! =] Hey Andreas, we crossed AGAIN! ;] Love your dusky take on this one, esp. the birds flying in the background. Gives it that haunted castle kind of feel. =]

That is way cool Kimmers, how'd ya do that? And Gradient...that TG render is so cool with the castle in there like that...gallery worthy! Your other one kicks @$$ too! So much great stuff here, go guys shine. I was thinking the original idea of DITI might be to just work with the material in the photo, but now I see that it pays off creatively when you see what others combine your work with. I'm looking forward to giving it a go next week, man, what shall I do??? From the subtle to the overt, all of these images ROCK!

Wow...the stuff here just gets better and better! It's so great to see the way different people can take an image and make it unique and their own. Just makes me so happy to have 'discovered' digital photography and PS. Even more impressive,is the number of you who say,'it's just a quickie' or 'I only had a few minutes'... To do even HALF the stuff I've seen here, would take me the better part of a day...and the other half is simply out of my realm at present...so it's very inspiring for me to see all of this. So all I can say is,fabulous work everyone...This DITI idea is one of the best at RR's forum yet.Thanks.-M :^)

These are all fabulous interpretations from one image. Fascinating and inspiring. I do have a suggestion: How do people feel about giving a brief description of how they arrived at their final image. This would then help others, and turn this into a learning experience which would be useful on many levels for personal development in photography. Just to see how others have varied and used the light is useful in itself, but to have an insight into how this has been achieved will help in bringing out those qualities in other images. I am not suggesting a lengthy tutorial on each, just a brief description, then if someone wants to know more they can ask and maybe develop it in another thread. Without this it seems in some places to be a mixed medium gallery, with it I believe it would be a real asset to photography where people could use the skills learnt to develop their own photographic images. [I am happy to explain what I did though I won't add it to this posting to avoid raising a second subject in the same post.]

Description for #3 post above. I wanted to create a mystical type atmosphere. Create duplicate layer, twice. Filled first duplicate with sky colour. Used Flood plug in from 'Flaming Pear'. 2nd background copy used flood filter again. Added masks to layers. Erased all but the castle and reflection from top layer. Added layer twice - rendered with PS clouds filter. Changed first cloud layer to screen blend, 2nd to multiply. Adjusted levels etc. for final result.

I saved the original, then made it into a bmp. Selected the sky and changed one to black and one to white.Transferred it into Bryce and created a terrain to use it in. Made some changes to transparent out the windows.Added a few more terrains and brought it back into PSP where I did some work with the Wacom tablet. Was just a quick one, and I havent used Bryce for so long I am forgetting. Then into Potoshop for some highlights and shadows.

Sorry, as long as I was explaining...I just HAD to post another version. I cut the wall out from the original image, deleted the window glass (both of these feathering the edges 1 pixel), adjusted the color and copied it onto one of my own sky images. So many possibilities with this one image! =] Thanks Andreas! =]

Ah Kort, now I know why you wanted a big image, Kort cheated btw boys and girls and asked for a full size image lol Very nicely done, really like the idea, tried something similar myself. Really like the mood Andreas created too, Took a peek at Gradients gallery version, the cattle is a great addition to it. Brilliant thread, can't wait to next Monday.... DITI No.19 (PSP9) 1.Selected the whole castle using selection in smart edge mode and copied to a new image. 2.Used clone brush to extend the bottom walls over the boarding. 3.Copied the modified castle as new layer into the bacground shot. 4.Used deform tool in scale mode to reduce size and then copied a mirror version as new layer. 5.Used clone brush to make the wall between to two towers and extend wall down to the rocks. 6. Clone brush to make foliage in front of bottom walls. 7.Used chanel mixer to change colour on castle. 8.Flaten layers, and soft edge brush aoround the edges of the castle. Clone brush to remove existing parts of original castle in the background. 9. Reduce size to 700 pix and small sharpen. There probally an easier way, but thats the only way I know how to do it at the moment. Haven't got to grip with masks yet!!! I was trying to get the castle to the same colour as the bridge but run out of time and still not sure how to it! Steve
TwistedMindDesigns posted Tue, 28 February 2006 at 11:56 PM
#28 - Can I play too?
I tend to use the quick mask tool.
#1 enter quick mask mode and paint the area I want to
extract (castle first) then click on Load selection.
then save selection as an alpha channel
This way the selected area can be loaded as a path
or mask for export as a vector to illustrator.
(This is just because I am use to working wirh production graphics, so it is mainly ut of habit)
#2 I opened the new photo I shot of myself with an empty
hand. Then again in quick mask mode I painted my fingers
and thumb.... Again loading selection... bla bla bla...
#3 Paste or drag castle to a second layer..
#4 Paste fingers to third layer making sure
layer three is the upper most layer....
#5 A few transform adjustments on the castle to make
it fit my hand.
#6 Copy and paste some peices if brick from the castle
and transform adjust to make them look like they
are falling off the bottom...
#7 Flatten, optimise & upload....
It sounds more complicated then it actually is but
the whole process took about 10 min...
Even if you choose not to choose, you still have made a choice
TwoPynts posted Wed, 01 March 2006 at 7:35 AM
Yeah, production will make you fast...would probably take me triple that time. ;] Great explanations everyone. It is interesting to know your processes, mainly because it if were my I might have gone about them a little differently.
