Win XP Pro 64bit vs Win XP Pro 32bit and Vue, Poser, Photoshop etc. Hi All I just saw some of the messages about Vue and other programmes and just thought I'd share my thoughts on a few things. I have a AMD 64 bit dual core CPU, and decided to try Windows XP Pro x64 bit, along side the original XP Pro 32 bit on a dual OS System and compare them. First and foremost I was expecting nothing to work well with the 64bit OS, I don't work for Microsoft, E-on, Curious Labs etc. etc. Vue makes full use of my dual core CPU on both the 32bit and 64bit OS, but works much better on the 64bit system, it has less crashes, it renders faster. Example- scene in 32bit OS 24mins, 64bit OS 22mins, makes much better use of the system resources and load within 5 seconds from a fresh start 64bit OS and 8 seconds 32bit OS which also translates to all the menus in Vue. Poser uses only one core of my CPU but is much better under the 64bit system, it's renders also speed up, top quality settings Rhino scene as seen in my gallery, 32bit - 18 mins, 64bit - 14mins the menu system is instant probally due in part to the harddrives much better response times and loads from a fresh start very quickly under the 64bit OS. Photoshop CS uses only one core of my CPU but is much better in the 64 bit system , it is far more responsive and loves the system resource management. Shade is worse under 64bit system, it load very quick then slows to a crawl, on investigating it makes one CPU race to 43% to 45% with touching anything, of course that leaves a whole 5% to render with and not making use of the other core on my CPU. NOT Recommended for 64bit. This all happens in a much more efficient environment, the harddrive access is phenomally quicker and smoother and the graphics in all the programmes ie menus and sub menus are far more responsive in 64bit, Its not unusual for me to start Vue rendering, kick in the internet to view galleries and pose a figure in Poser, Like now for instance, obviously the CPU helps but it can't be the only factor. Very Interesting Chris. I was wondering if Vue and Poser would work on 64Bit OS. I'm trying to get on the beta test list for Vista and was going to try so 3D apps on that . . .
